R&D Technician/Technologist
This position demands creativity and collaborative hands-on work to design, assemble, operate and optimize prototypes for Mid-Stream processing equipment. Role requires excellent mechanical, electrical, and control and instrumentation, and a commitment to safety and quality initiatives. A strong background in practical mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering is essential, with a focus on control systems and instrumentation.
Skills:
The candidate should have demonstrable working knowledge, experience, and proficiency with many of the skills below:
+ Experience operating, and maintaining complex mechanical systems, laboratory equipment, industrial scale process equipment, or small-scale pilots.
+ Understanding standard Oil, Water, and Gas production processes and operations.
+ Instrumentation and control systems, PLCs, and PLC programming is essential.
+ Process Sensors. (Temperature, Pressure, Level, Flow, pH)
+ Standard industrial communication protocols
+ Ethernet networking principles
+ Hydraulic and pneumatic systems and equipment
+ Process piping and pressure vessel codes and standards
+ Industrial process equipment, valves, pressure vessels, and pressure piping.
+ Electrical codes and standards
+ Interpreting process, electrical, and instrument wiring diagrams.
+ Mechanical assembly.
+ Standard process operation practices, and procedures.
+ AutoCad, Visio, MS Word and Excel
+ Standard mechanical workshop operations and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Development:
+ Complete the design and assembly of pilot systems and prototypes, translating conceptual ideas into functional equipment for testing and research.
+ Prepare detailed project budgets
+ Prepare realistic project schedules
+ Assist project manager for design, construction, and installation phases of pilot or prototype development.
+ Size, select, and purchase equipment, and materials for pilots and prototypes.
+ Manage vendors on equipment sizing, design, operation and service.
+ Generate and interpret process, electrical, and instrument wiring diagrams.
+ Develop and document operational procedures to guide research engineers in utilizing testing equipment.
+ Communicate and liaise with contractors on work scope and review quotations.
+ Assist with training of internal employees on processes and operations of pilots.
+ Assist client or internal operations teams in the field occasionally.
Operation and Maintenance:
+ Maintain, manage and program PLC equipment and applications.
+ Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment, such as pumps, heaters, industrial instrumentation, and control systems.
+ Ensure safe operation of prototypes and pilot equipment.
+ Take ownership of testing campaigns, from planning through execution and analysis, to optimize prototype performance and assure data accuracy.
+ Troubleshoot problems occurring with pilots and prototypes and work with the Research Engineering team to address unexpected results
+ Technical Documentation and Communication, including test results.
+ Assist in writing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and train team members as needed.
Safety and Risk Management:
+ Evaluate projects for operational and safety risks and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
+ Advise management on performance risks.
+ Maintain good housekeeping practices and manage inventory of tools, equipment, and consumables.
