About the Job
Job Responsibilities:
• Responsible for assembly and support testing of mechanical and electronic devices
• Support projects for fabrication and test of all mechanical and electrical ground support equipment
• Support flat pattern layout, fabrication, (sewing) and installation of thermal blankets
• Support Assembly, Test and Launch Operations (ATLO) activities at the company and at launch site
• Perform tests, verify configuration, solder wires and cable fabrication
• Ability to work from prints and sketches and use precision measuring devices, as well as all shop and hand tools
• Perform setup operations on environmental test equipment and mechanical support equipment, start and operate test equipment from detailed procedures and make adjustments as required
• Interface with cognizant or research engineer and suggest test configurations and will perform work in accordance with the test engineers' procedures
• Assigned to projects and teamwork with engineers and technicians on the assembly and test of flight spacecraft
Required Skills:
• Typically requires a High School diploma with 8 years of related experience; related and required training; Associates with 4 years of related experience; Bachelors with 1 years of related experience; related required training
• Minimum of 6 years as a pattern maker and sewing machine operator
• Must have advanced understanding, technical expertise, and experience in the following areas: o Electro-Mechanical Assembly, with strong emphasis on thermal blanket fabrication, installation, alignment and testing also strong knowledge of thermal blanket properties and grounding procedures o Safe handling and bonding of delicate components, including all surface prep and flight hardware in a controlled environment
• Ability to work from prints and sketches and use precision measuring devices, as well as all shop and hand tools
• Experience working in 100-10,000 clean room, and Hi bay protocol
• Advanced understanding of applicable policies, procedures, and practices in handling Flight Hardware
• Ability to work with different solvents on a daily basis
• Work with limited supervision requiring no instructions on routine work, and general instructions on new assignments
Desired Skills:
• Associates degree with 4 years of related experience; Bachelors with 2 years of related experience
• Minimum 6 years' experience as a prototype pattern maker and blanket fabricator
• Advanced understanding, technical expertise and experience in the following areas: Assembly, Test and Launch Operations. (ATLO); Electronic assemblies; assembly/dis-assembly, operation, testing, troubleshooting & diagnostics of components
• Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity, necessary to work with miniaturized systems or components
• Must be able to work at remote sites for extended periods
• Skilled in operations of all shop tools, including soldering and crimping
• Ability to work closely with team members, long hours in a sometimes-high stress environment
• Working knowledge of computer applications (e.g., spreadsheets, databases, word processing, web searches) for component information
