Job Summary:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the engineering team in developing and improving manufacturing processes for high-tech printed circuit boards (PCBs). This role ensures that engineering activities align with company goals, industry standards, and customer requirements. The Engineering Manager will oversee process optimization, equipment management, and product innovation while fostering a collaborative environment that drives continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Leadership:
o Manage, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, including process, product, and quality engineers.
o Establish performance goals and conduct regular performance evaluations.
o Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning within the engineering team.
2. Process Development and Optimization:
o Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of PCB manufacturing processes, including drilling, plating, imaging, lamination, and testing.
o Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness in production.
o Lead efforts to troubleshoot and resolve production issues in collaboration with production and quality teams.
3. Project Management:
o Plan, manage, and execute engineering projects, including new product introductions (NPI) and process upgrades.
o Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
o Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and supply chain, to meet project objectives.
4. Customer and Technical Support:
o Serve as a technical liaison with customers to understand their requirements and provide engineering solutions.
o Review customer designs and specifications to ensure manufacturability and compliance with SOMACIS capabilities.
o Address customer concerns and support quality improvement initiatives.
5. Equipment and Technology:
o Oversee the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment, such as laser drilling machines, AOI systems, and plating tanks.
o Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend investments in advanced equipment and processes.
o Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for critical machinery.
6. Compliance and Documentation:
o Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., IPC, ISO 9001, AS9100) and customer-specific requirements.
o Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including process workflows, specifications, and technical reports.
o Drive adherence to environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations within the engineering department.
7. Continuous Improvement:
o Lead Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
o Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure engineering and production efficiency.
o Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making and problem-solving.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial) or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in engineering roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial capacity.
- Strong knowledge of PCB manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment.
- Proven track record of leading successful engineering projects in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software, process simulation tools, and manufacturing analytics.
- Familiarity with IPC standards, ISO 9001, and AS9100 certifications.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with advanced PCB technologies, such as HDI, rigid-flex, or multilayer boards.
- Certification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt), or PMP.
- Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices in manufacturing.
