General Description
Tyonek is dedicated to solving problems for current and future customers. We are seeking a motivated individual to take on the position of Engineering Manager for our structural and mechanical engineering design and analysis team. You will hold a key role in our aircraft integration efforts. Using your engineering expertise, you will grow, mentor, and guide a team of engineers work on the integration of avionics and/or weapons systems, structural modification, and/or interior modifications into a variety of vehicle platforms. Our customers will include US DoD, foreign military, and/or commercial entities. You may also be the technical point of contact for business development and proposal efforts, customer meetings and reviews, as well as internal coordination and reviews.
Duties
- A wide degree of creativity and latitude is encouraged.
- Provide direct leadership for a team of engineers including, but not limited to, hiring, performance reviews, merit distribution, coaching, discipline/corrective actions, budgeting, and career development
- Review and checking CAD technical data packages to include 3D models, 2D drawings using CAD software.
- Guiding and driving design solutions to complex structural and/or mechanical issues in the field of rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft with considerations for weight, thermal, vibration, corrosion and airworthiness.
- Reviewing and approving various analysis reports.
- Write and/or review specifications, processes, and inputs to technical volumes of proposals
- Participate and/or present material in formal and informal design reviews.
- Effectively communicate with Airworthiness Authorities.
- Review and support creation of installation instructions.
- Provide engineering leadership and guidance during prototype, validation and verification of aircraft modifications.
- Review completed installations to ensure conformance to design.
- Review qualification test plans and reports
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Report to Director of Engineering
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field) is preferred.
- Minimum 15 years design experience is required.
- Experience in direct supervision of a team of engineers and technical staff, including performance management
- Knowledge of Mechanical engineering principals including airflow, component cooling, and ventilation
- Experience in aircraft structures design to include sheet metal, machined and composite parts and assemblies.
- Understanding of aircraft structures, load paths and designing for crash loads.
- Working knowledge of material selections military and/or commercial references
- Working knowledge and understanding of military and/or commercial aerospace practices, processes, specifications and standards.
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-31000, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standards and associated drawing and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements.
- Experience in SolidWorks, CATIA, and/or Creo CAD software
- Ability to write and review airworthiness documents, plans and test procedures.
- General understanding of manufacturability of sheet metal, machined and composite parts and assemblies.
- Working knowledge of Classical and Finite Element Analysis.
- Knowledge of aircraft corrosion prevention methods, techniques and treatments.
- Working knowledgeable of DoD and/or FAA aircraft technical manuals.
- Experience with DoD and/or FAA aircraft airworthiness certification substantiation analysis and reports; e.g; Weight & Balance, Drag, Structural, Crash Loads, Thermal, etc.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced multi-tasking customer service-oriented environment with a high degree of efficient and effective performance.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.

- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day

- May be required to lift up to 25 pounds and carry for short distances.
- Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
- Normally works in an office setting with controlled temperature.
