Engineering Intern - Mechanical Simulation LVE Hardware - Rivian and VW Group Technology

Internship Term: 

Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and June 2027.

Note that if your university has specific requirements for internship programs, it is your responsibility to fulfill those requirements. 

• Perform thermal management simulations on LVE electronics with focus on enclosed electronics assemblies having both passive and active (air cooled/liquid cooled) thermal solutions.
• Apply knowhow of heat-transfer and fluid mechanics to perform design risk assessments and provide risk mitigation solutions.
• Create pre/post processing scripts to increase simulation turnaround time and improve workflow efficiency.
• Develop thermal validation and testing plan; perform thermal validation experiments.
• Create simulation assessment reports and publish internal whitepapers/documentation

• Must be currently pursuing a masters or PhD degree at an accredited university
• Actively pursuing a degree or one closely related in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Materials Science with a focus on thermal sciences/fluid mechanics
• Relevant coursework in Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, CFD, and Numerical Methods
• Familiarity with turbulent flow models
• Hands on exposure to experimental heat-transfer: thermal conductivity measurements, attaching thermocouples for model validation, working with thermal interface materials and epoxies
• Research in electronics cooling preferred
• Python/Matlab scripting skills

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Internships: The range of pay for internships is 25.00-51.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on location, and other factors permitted by law. 

Rivian provides robust wellness benefits, and a medical insurance package for interns, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
