Engineering Advisor
The role will be hybrid (when not traveling) with 3 days in office required at the Houston location that is just a few miles from George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Travel to sites (approximately 20% travel). The current advisor is being promoted to a Plant Manager position, so there will be support and training for the new employee.
Job Profile
- Manage CAPEX projects for the 5 industrial sites
- Perform the Project manager role or as support of the project manager on the site.
- Monitoring the CAPEX budgets, plans, project approvals and conformity with the rules of TCV and the Total Group
- Monitoring and reporting the progress of all CSP activities
- Perform leadership role in ISO-9000/1 corporate certification
Activities
- Develops project concepts from sites into working scope documents for project execution
- Provides engineering design for projects
- Solves project and engineering problems independently or through networking with other knowledgeable individuals
- Manages outside contractors for engineering and construction of projects
- Leads internal teams during development of scope to ensure quality of project outcomes
- Understands project sponsors and communicates effectively across multiple disciplines and personnel to gather input and translate into working scope activities and tasks to be completed
- Maintains cost and schedule data for projects; This is for project controls / tracking and for data analysis post project
- Seeks out opportunities for improvement at both the site and organizational level relating to project workflow and Capital expenditures
- Communicates knowledge learned from projects to all plants to help improve projects as a whole
- Maintain monthly CAPEX forecast. Communicate results to the Business Team on projected spending for the year
- Compile the Long Term Capital Plan and the Capital budget annually with the plants to help align the plant needs with the budgets available and communicate these needs in the form of projects to management
- Drive cost saving initiatives, maintain monthly CSP forecast. Communicate results to the Business Team on projected savings
- Takes the lead in ISO-9000/9001 activities for leading internal audits and preparing the company for ISO certifications and external audits
Context & Environment
- This position requires numerous internal and external interactions to lead project development for the expenditure of CAPEX. This individual will interact across organizations with corporate groups (ie. purchasing, accounting) and within the local plant environments (ie. plant managers, local project coordinators, LCC, production managers, process engineers, maintenance and operations, etc ). This position is to support the sites with the service of Project Engineering and Management while adhering to requirements and standard.
Qualifications/Experience required
- 4-year technical degree (such as, but not limited to Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering) along with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in a chemical manufacturing plant, preferably Project Management experience.
- Effectively communicate within and outside of the organization to develop necessary project documentation
- Efficient and effective organizational skills to handle multiple projects and other tasks simultaneously
- Knowledge of engineering standards and industry practices, as well as purchasing rules and project accounting
- Large autonomy, ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and motivate small teams with multiple functions and skills as needed on certain projects.
- Ability to travel to multiple sites throughout the year (total travel at least 20%).
