About the Job
R&P is seeking a Senior-Level Engineer to support the U.S. Navy's LPD 17 Shipbuilding Program (PMS 317) in Norfolk, VA. This position will serve as the conduit among Amphibious Ships (fleet and those in Post Delivery) capturing and sharing lessons learned and issues among the crew, Program Office, Fleet Introduction Team, regional maintenance activities, and Life cycle support offices (PMS 407/443), when directed and tasked to support those availabilities.
Job involves direct interaction with the ship’s crew to provide deck plate ship operations and maintenance expertise and assist in troubleshooting and managing critical repairs and improvements.

Responsibilities:
- Perform direct interaction with the ship’s crew to provide deck plate ship operations and maintenance expertise and assist in troubleshooting and managing critical repairs and improvements.
- Serve as the conduit among Amphibious Ships (fleet and those in Post Delivery) capturing and sharing lessons learned and issues among the crew, Program Office, Fleet Introduction Team, regional maintenance activities, Life cycle support offices PMS 407/443 when directed and tasked to support those availabilities.
- Assist the Hull Manager in managing designated work items during post delivery availabilities, Window of Opportunities (WOOs) and Continuous Maintenance Availabilities (CMAVs).
- Assist Hull Manager with government oversight, problem resolution, schedule coordination with Industrial Prime Contractor and collection of Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) required to document work item completion and the associated Production Completion Date (PCD) Key Event certification.
- Coordinate among the Program Office, Fleet, NAVSEA/ISEA, Class Squadron (CLASSRONs), and other Technical Authorities.
- Work with ship’s Commanding Officers and Department Heads to facilitate Casualty Report (CASREP) correction and development of Deviation from Specification (DFS).
- Assist Hull Manager to rapidly facilitate and resolve deck plate issues and provide supporting technical feedback. This will include participating in ships’ weekly Planning Board for Maintenance and assisting in streamlining responses to warranty issues, PDT&T problem reports, CASREPs, and work planning between arrival homeport and OWLD.
- Assist Hull Manager in conducting ship checks to answer questions raised by the Program Office Technical/System Integration Director and/or other Program Office Managers and Class Planning Yard on equipment configurations.
- Assist Alteration Installation Team (AIT) planning and execution as necessary.
- Serve as the systems integration technical representative to develop viable solutions for potential integration and design issues.
- Assist Ships Force with deck plate preparation for Light- off Assessment (LOA) and, as needed, for the first ULTRA E in the homeport.
- Additionally, augment other Program Office Teams during preparations for pre-assessment and execution of Builder’s, Acceptance, sail away, Final Contract Trials, and other inspections/certifications at a location to be determined (e.g. homeport or building yard).
- Provide guidance to pre-commissioning engineering officers promoting lessons learned in such areas as fueling at sea, preparations for Final Contract Trials, training, and maintaining equipment.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering discipline related to job and 10-14 years of relevant work experience.
- DoD/Navy ACAT I Program, Amphibious Assault Ship Class and Navy Fleet Introduction experience is required.
- Active Secret Clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
