The Role
Synthesizes customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions that acknowledges technical, schedule and cost constraints. Develops and directs preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing systems. Coordinates integrated testing activities. Reviews and evaluates test requirements to insure completeness of test program. Performs technical analysis of complete systems and prepares comprehensive system level evaluations.
This position will serve as a Test and Field Engineer for the Elevator Test Group in Department E25, HM&E Section. This group is responsible for the testing of Advanced Weapons Elevators, Aircraft Elevators, Stores Elevators and associated systems. The primary function of this job is to verify the final assembled system meets operational requirements by writing and performing government approved Test Procedures. However, a significant portion of the job involves grooming and troubleshooting electromechanical components. This is a hands on position and requires a unique ability to lead a diverse group of engineers, technicians and production tradespeople to problem resolutions. About 50% of the job is performed in a heavy industrial, shipboard environment; the other half is spent in an office environment writing and evaluating technical documentation. This position requires the flexibility to work rotating shifts and to sail with the ship during Sea Trials and other at sea periods. This position is eligible for overtime pay and night shift differential.
Additional Details and Competencies:
• Ability to Lead engineering evaluations and troubleshoot a variety of electrical and mechanical components.
• Experience leading the operation of major equipment in a shipboard environment.
• Effectively communicate with both internal and external customers, including Waterfront Construction Management, Design and Construction Engineering, Test Engineering, SUPSHIP, NAVSEA and Ships Force.
• Capacity to evaluate problems relative to impact on the overall plan/schedule and formulate mitigating action plans.
• Must have an understanding of the importance of safety, cost, schedule, and quality with respect to the company's product.
Must Have
An ABET Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience;
OR Professional Development Program (PDP) NNS Apprentice Certificate
