Department 440: Payload Launch Control Systems Engineering group supporting VIRGINIA Undersea Dominance programs.
Department 440 has a systems engineering team supporting Undersea Dominance submarine programs. The systems engineering team is responsible for the development of new payloads and technologies that give our submarines global advantage. System engineers may be called upon to perform many diverse tasks during the project life cycle:
system architectures | concepts of operations development |
design review presentations | integration of system of systems |
technical refresh assessments | prototype engineering |
identify opportunities for cost reduction | trade-studies |
plans and process documentation | requirements development and maintenance |
model based systems engineering | hardware/software integration |
system drawings and wiring tables | System safety |
interfaces both data and physical | identify/resolve program risks |
component qualification | assessment of obsolescence issues |

Systems engineers set the design and concepts of operations for overall systems, and may occasionally assess detailed designs. Systems engineers develop and review requirements and interface documents. The position requires the engineer to interface with NAVSEA, Naval Shipyards, Government vendors, sub-contractors and other EB departments and stakeholders as necessary. Travel is not required but may be requested to help facilitate cooperation subcontractors and stakeholders.
Qualifications:Required:
- Bachelor’s of Science Degree in an engineering discipline
- 1.5+ years of related engineering experience
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills
- Experience working successfully both in a team environment and independently
- Demonstrated effective engineering project management including budget, resources, and schedule
- Experience with integration of complex systems
- Current DOD Secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
- Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of operations (Casciano/Gabriel)
Preferred:
- B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical, Robotics, or Systems Engineering
- Experience in submarine electronics system development, integration, installation and test
- Experience in network and cybersecurity
- Experience in process adherence and CMMI practices
- Understanding of design, build, sustain process, EVMS and design tools and processes is desirable
- Experience with IBM Rational DOORS and Microsoft Office tools including Project and Visio
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills
- Experience working successfully both in a team environment and independently
