Spirit Maine's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
Your role: Spirit Maine is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Engineer to join our Manufacturing Engineering Team! In this roll, you will support New Product Introduction (NPI) while mentoring process engineers, and coordinating/executing technical tasks with management. In addition to new product development, as the Senior Engineer you will drive improvements in safety, quality, cost and cycle time using Lean and Six Sigma principles
Job Responsibilities:
- Be the Engineering Subject Matter Expert to drive new products and equipment into production.
- Plan, coordinate execution of manufacturing processes
- Provide technical leadership and lead by example
- Create and mentor execution of process improvements to final manufacturing hand-off
- Anticipate bottlenecks and mitigate constraints with technical solutions
- Team player with all stakeholders
- Coordinate transfer of customer requirements to production processes and related documentation
- Maximizes efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods and work force utilization
- Determines the parts, equipment, tools and processes needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals
- Conducts time and cost analysis of processes
- Contributes to complex aspects of a project
- Sets improvement priorities based off value stream maps and pareto data
- Ensure all safety procedures are followed and maintain a safe work environment
- Expected to participate in Lean activities
What we need from you:
- Bachelor’s Degree of engineering
- 10+ plus years of manufacturing experience; 15 years preferred
- Demonstrated experience in team building, continuous improvement, and cycle time reduction
- Experience with project management
- Experience with GD&T
- Good communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with a team and independently when required
- Ability to write process procedures or instructions
- Mechanical aptitude
- Familiarity with PFMEA, potential hazards and to apply proper care and consideration
