Title: Principal Engineer – Substation
Location: Juno Beach, FL
Pay: up to $67/hr - *Based on experience* 
Job Summary: Are you ready to take on a leadership role in substation engineering? Join our Engineering & Construction Business Unit as a Principal Engineer – Substation. You will oversee substation projects from conception to construction and commissioning, ensuring compliance with all standards and delivering high-quality results.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Manage all assigned substation projects from the early conceptual phase through construction and commissioning.
• Collaborate with the Early-Stage Project Manager and Development Group to support engineering requirements and scope.
• Provide training, due diligence, and technical oversight of external engineers of record (EOR) to ensure compliance with interconnection agreements, project specifications, design requirements, IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and other applicable standards.
• Secure engineering consulting resources by developing scopes of work, obtaining bids, and awarding contracts through NEER’s Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group.
• Coordinate with project stakeholders to secure substation sites and support engineering updates, data, and permits.
• Source and contract geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services competitively, and support the E&C Cost Estimating Team with scope assumptions.
• Represent E&C’s internal and external interests on assigned projects, providing updates on progress, issues, and risk mitigation to various management levels.
• Support Transmission Services during the review of interconnection documentation, ensuring compliance with ISO requirements and project deliverables.
• Manage long lead major material orders to minimize risks of delays or budget overruns, and assist ISC with SOW creation, review, approval, and procurement.
• Support E&C Estimating with template updates through project feedback and technical support.
• Collaborate with project engineering resources across disciplines to prioritize projects, develop work plans, and ensure clear demarcation lines.
• Ensure projects are implemented efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely according to department processes, procedures, and industry standards.
• Support project commissioning activities to meet corporate objectives.
• Assist Legal in regulatory filings, depositions, and hearings.
• Collaborate with component OEMs to adapt designs to better integrate with NEER’s philosophies.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in substation design and engineering of high voltage substation projects is highly preferred.
• Experience in Project Engineering and/or Project Management with a strong bias for action.
• PMP and/or P.E. in a related discipline is a plus.
• Some travel within North America is required.
