Civil Engineer III

Department Overview
The Project Engineering team provides multi-discipline engineering expertise for natural gas capital projects, including gas distribution, transmission, city gates/regulator stations, compression, and storage facilities. This Civil Engineer III will be part of the civil engineering group, specifically supporting capital upgrade projects for the Metering, Regulation, and Controls Department. These projects focus on city gate facilities, regulator stations, and gas analysis buildings, working alongside a collaborative team of project engineers, project managers, and operations personnel.
Role Overview
The Civil Engineer III will manage various aspects of civil engineering design and construction for multiple projects, including:
Regular updates on project status, including scope, quality, cost, and schedule risks, will be expected for the Civil Engineer’s supervisor.
Work Environment
This position operates in a heavy industrial environment at natural gas facilities, with exposure to loud, hot, and oily conditions. Physical capabilities required include the ability to:
Travel Requirements
The Civil Engineer will travel to construction sites approximately 3-5 days per week. Typical site visits involve pre-engineering kickoffs, bid walk-downs, construction milestones, quality inspections, and red-line walk-downs.

Role Overview
The Civil Engineer III will manage various aspects of civil engineering design and construction for multiple projects, including:
- Scoping: Define and scope the civil engineering requirements for project completion.
- Contracting Services: Source and manage contract engineering services as needed.
- Technical Leadership: Provide engineering reviews and technical guidance throughout the project.
- Construction Contracting: Support the Project Manager in contracting construction services to achieve project goals.
- Closeout Activities: Complete final project tasks, including record drawings and test documentation.
Regular updates on project status, including scope, quality, cost, and schedule risks, will be expected for the Civil Engineer’s supervisor.
Work Environment
This position operates in a heavy industrial environment at natural gas facilities, with exposure to loud, hot, and oily conditions. Physical capabilities required include the ability to:
- Climb stairs and fixed ladders to elevated platforms
- Enter confined spaces through access hatches
- Navigate rough construction sites as necessary
Travel Requirements
The Civil Engineer will travel to construction sites approximately 3-5 days per week. Typical site visits involve pre-engineering kickoffs, bid walk-downs, construction milestones, quality inspections, and red-line walk-downs.
Required Technical Skills
- Civil Design Knowledge: Experience with site design, stormwater management, pre-engineered metal buildings, foundation and storage tank design, and environmental permitting (e.g., wetlands, soil erosion).
- Contract Document Management: Skilled in coordinating and creating contract documents, including engineering drawings and technical specifications for both consulting and construction services.
- Code Proficiency: Familiarity with Civil/Structural codes, including but not limited to IBC/MBC, AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, AWS D1.1, and ASCE 7.
