Summary of the Role:
We are looking for someone to support MRDA Regulatory Affairs & Certification (RAC) department on regulatory, certification and compliance safety matters affecting current and future light-duty vehicle design/development. You will plan and coordinate information submission concerning safety compliance and consumer ratings of North American (NA) market vehicles. This position is also responsible for researching, investigating, and benchmarking competitors’ components, systems, and structures along with regulatory compliance strategies related to passive and active safety. You will ensure that items of importance to Mitsubishi Motors are reported on in a timely manner. Interact with entities including but not limited to NHTSA, IIHS, NTSB, the Alliance for Automotive Innovation (AfAI), other vehicle manufacturers, Mitsubishi North American Affiliate offices, and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Lastly, review reports on vehicle safety related matters.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and seek Manager approval for release of work products on light-duty vehicle safety matters; report to the Manager on relevant work performed by safety regulation staff & analysts; and work/consult with the Manager on policy positions regarding vehicle safety matters.
- Support work on analysis and strategic recommendations in a timely manner to MMC on US regulatory activities; guide MMC in its comments for rulemaking or other government-initiated actions; help to consolidate MMC/MMNA input and submit final documents to NHTSA, IIHS, or other related entities.
- Represent MRDA/MMC at US industry vehicle safety committees and workgroups and inform MMC in a timely manner on light-duty vehicle safety-related discussions, and advise MMC on recommended actions.
- Support MMSCan on vehicle safety related matters upon request.
- Ensure information requests from NHTSA, IIHS, or other related entities are handled in a smooth and timely manner.
- Act on requests from MMC for: interpretations of vehicle safety regulations and associated test procedures; technical Information (test results); background information on future/on-going rulemakings; and other related requests.
- Prepare and keep-current reports on major light duty vehicle safety regulatory activities and safety-related research.
- Plan, coordinate, witness, analyze, and document safety testing of Mitsubishi vehicles sold in the NA market.
- Plan, coordinate, prepare, and perform static and dynamic benchmarking of safety-related components, systems, and structures on competitor models.
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ engineering degree (automotive related) or equivalent.
- 2+ years of automotive development or equivalent experience. Active or passive safety preferred.
- Computer literacy, particularly word-processing and spreadsheet ability; other Microsoft Office products; and Internet research.
- Proven research abilities are required. Ability to apply related engineering principles and practices to safety-related technical projects and processes.
