What you’ll do?
The Engineering Design Technician at Curtis will focus on new product development and sustaining engineering activities to improve the Quality, Delivery, Cost, and competitive position of the product portfolio. The Engineering Design Technician will bring the conceptual ideas into precise 3D models and will play a crucial role in creating accurate and detailed technical drawings and BOMs that serve as the foundation for the manufacturing and production processes.
Salary Range: $75,000-$92,000
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for creating accurate and detailed technical drawings and BOMs that serve as the foundation for the manufacturing and production processes.
- Participate in designing and developing products from conceptual ideas into precise 3D models.
- Generate detailed technical drawings, schematics, and assembly layouts to communicate design intent and specifications to manufacturing teams.
- Maintain and update design documentation as necessary, ensuring that all changes are accurately reflected in drawings and models.
- Perform dimensional and tolerance analysis for manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and optimizing designs for efficient production.
- Assist in creating bills of materials and documentation for assembly instructions and standard operating procedures, contributing to the seamless integration of designs into the manufacturing workflow.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and manufacturing teams, to incorporate feedback and make necessary adjustments to designs.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to translate conceptual ideas into precise 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks software.
- Actively participate in design review meetings, providing valuable input on manufacturability and suggesting improvements to enhance the overall design process.
- Identify and resolve design issues or discrepancies that may arise during the development process, collaborating with the engineering team to find effective solutions.
- Apply knowledge of injection moulding and sheet metal design to optimize the manufacturing processes of components, balancing cost-effectiveness with quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and industrial designers, to ensure seamless integration of electronic and mechanical components.
- Prepare detailed design documentation, including schematics, CAD models, and specifications, ensuring clear communication with the broader development team.
- Keep abreast of the latest developments in SolidWorks software and industry best practices to continually enhance drafting skills and contribute to process improvements.
- Collaborates with and uses the groups experts e.g., innovation and pre-development team, IP engineer, mechanical system and control architects, approval team and the like to use and generate synergies
What you need to be successful in this role:
- A degree or certification in 3D modelling, preferably in SolidWorks, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a SolidWorks Design Technician, demonstrating proficiency in creating detailed and accurate technical drawings.
- Experience in ERP/MRP systems, JDE or SAP preferred.
- Ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse teams.
- Well organized and have ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Flexible working hours may be necessary to meet project deadlines and resolve urgent issues.
- Fluency in written and verbal English is a must, Spanish and German are pluses.
- Thorough knowledge of mechanical hardware and mechanical product architecture and design concept.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems, including sensors and actuator hardware specs and architecture.
