Position Overview
This position provides engineering expertise for UNT facilities. This position works with campus and external teams to identify, asses, and prioritize mechanic, electrical and plumbing projects. This position is also responsible for project management oversight for MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) projects.. The position manages multiple projects simultaneously to successful completion while meeting demanding schedules.
Representative tasks are:
• Serves as Project Manager and main point of contact for building occupants on MEP (Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) renovation projects. Leads and coordinates all activities of Design Engineer during Design, General Contractor during construction, and oversees Commissioning and Test and Balance work. Inspects the work of ongoing projects ensuring quality and completeness and adherence to the Campus Design Guidelines.
• Provides analysis of existing mechanical systems of campus buildings for condition assessment, operating capacity, functionality, compatibility with associated systems and use of spaces served. Assists the Shops to troubleshoot existing mechanical system issues. Provides detailed scope and recommendation of corrective work to be performed.
• Provides detailed engineering review of design drawings, specifications, and submittals for construction projects for remodeling, renovation, repair, replacement or new construction. Ensures documents adhere to applicable codes, Campus Design Guidelines, and MEP (Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems are designed to meet the needs and best interest of the University.
• Makes recommendations and keeps the MEP sections of the Campus Design Guidelines up to date.
• Reviews and provides comments and analysis of all Commissioning, Test and Balance reports, and DDC control sequences.
• Provides assessment of new technologies, equipment and systems for related mechanical equipment to evaluate the total value to the University.
• Prepares and presents reports, documents, programs, or drawings to management or staff as assigned; prepares and presents training sessions for staff for various topics as assigned; serves as a resource for all Departments within UNT Facilities providing technical support and engineering expertise.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field and four years' of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Work experience that demonstrates increasing responsibility in management of institutional renovation and new construction projects for owner clients.
* Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, including IBC, IECC, and ASHRAE Standards and Guidelines.
* Knowledge of the participles, practices and theories of electrical supply/distribution, plumbing, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
* Comprehensive knowledge of civil, mechanical , electrical, structural and architectural participles and practices of field construction.
* Ability to review the design of outside consultants and to read and interpret all related plans and specifications.
* Experience estimating costs, scheduling, monitoring and managing construction projects.
* Experience inspecting buildings, structures, facilities for contract document compliance, standards, codes and safety.
Preferred Qualifications
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.
Job Duties:
- Provides support for all of UNT Facilities regarding engineering analysis and assessment for MEP systems.
- Reviews contract documents, drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings in a timely manner to ensure the project meets the needs of the university and adherence to UNT design guidelines and applicable codes and laws.
- Problem solving and learning. Analyzes and develops creative solutions to issues as they arise on projects. Regularly exhibits ability to learn and apply new skills; keeps abreast of current developments in his/her field of work including changes in codes and laws.
- Project Management Follows project management processes, maintains accurate records, ensures onetime project deadlines, properly manages the project budget, has a good understanding of contracts and contract requirements for design and construction, and completes paperwork in a timely manner.
- Manages outside consultants and contractors to ensure they are delivering the services and/or product specified within the specified timeframe.
- Consistently completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision. Accepts responsibility for own work and follows through on commitments.
