Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Administrative Coordinator of Endoscopy Services and the Endoscopy registered nurses, assists with patient endoscopy procedures and various other delegated duties as required to assist the Endoscopy team.

Responsibilities:
- Assists in the collection of data for objective assessment to identify the patient's needs, problems, concerns, or human response. Under the direction of the registered nurse, assists in the implementation of the established plan of care.
- Demonstrates competency in delivering care to all age groups excluding infants.
- Identifies and reports significant alterations in patient's condition to the registered nurse in order to ensure positive patient outcomes.
- Assists with transportation of Endoscopy patients to the Endoscopy Department which requires ability to push stretchers.
- Participates in the quality indicator projects to ensure safe, timely, and accessible care is being delivered according to the departmental plan of care.
- Prepares rooms, equipment and supplies to accommodate the individual patient/procedure needs.
- Assists physician with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and treatment. Scrubs on endoscopy procedures as needed.
- Follows proper procedure for decontamination of equipment according to hospital policy.
- Cares carefully for all equipment, returning equipment to proper locations, and assisting in the removal of malfunctioning equipment with the malfunction clearly identified.
- Cares carefully for instrumentation, protecting delicate instrumentation, clearly identifying instrumentation needing repair and removing it from service. Ensures that substerile areas are clear of all equipment at the end of the shift.
- Troubleshoots faulty equipment, performs minor repairs and notifies the Coordinator of equipment that needs further repair.
- Assists with preservation of specimens for laboratory analysis and other related duties.
- Anticipates the supplies necessary for procedures. Monitor par levels of supplies, tracks inventory, and reports low levels to the Coordinator.
- Continuously strives to improve room turnovers, anticipating needs for next cases.
- Controls the location of contaminated instruments and supplies to prevent spread of infection.
- Consistently assists other staff when not in a case.
- Maintains knowledge in changes in health care delivery pertinent to the practice issues related to the field of endoscopy/gastroenterology. Independently researches procedures, equipment and policies. Utilizes appropriate literature resources such as equipment manual, Gastroenterology Nursing, A Core Curriculum, etc.
- Promptly signs off on staff meetings, communication book entries, policy changes, OR educational modules and other educational resources. Reads and responds to e-mail in a timely manner
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.

- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables within established department and hospital policies and procedures.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.
- Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, families, visitors, other associates, outside agencies and vendors.
