About Oakland Leaf
Oakland Leaf was founded in 2001 by a collective of East Oakland educators intent on empowering youth voice. For the past 20 years, Oakland Leaf has evolved into a highly regarded leader in the fields of youth development and out-of-school time learning.
Oakland Leaf facilitates culturally relevant out-of-school time programming for approximately 1,000 K-12 East Oakland students through seven after school programs at public elementary and middle schools across East Oakland, one paid internship programs for high school students, and two 5-week summer camps - one for elementary children and one for middle school youth. Our programming emphasizes social and emotional learning, creative expression, critical thinking, leadership development, social justice, college and career readiness, and includes a diverse range of enrichment opportunities including S.T.E.M. activities, sports, poetry, visual arts, dance, literacy, community impact projects, and more.

Summary of Position
The Program Culture Leader will be responsible for facilitating the culture of the program, including ensuring a positive and structured environment that creates safe conditions for our students. This role will develop, manage, and oversee the implementation of restorative practices in our program. This position reports to the site specific Program Manager.
Specific Responsibilities
Student Culture
- Work closely with Program Manager to establish a positive, joyful, and achievement-oriented school culture vision and plan
- Facilitate instructor training and support around relationships, proactive positive culture, expectations, consistency, and classroom management
- Implement a program-wide behavior management system with meaningful and logical incentives and consequences
- Lead and oversee the implementation of our program-wide restorative practices and culture
- Participate in IEP or COST meetings for afterschool students who have behavior goals
- Conduct outreach to students and families about available resources and how to refer, and regularly assess effectiveness of outreach efforts
Program Operations
- Support Program Manager in the planning and coordinate logistics for program-wide culture and community events
- Support Program Manager in the implementation of protocols for program need assessment and program quality improvement
- Support Program Manager in the implementation of daily operations of the afterschool program
- Conduct regular program culture walkthroughs and classroom observations
- Fill in for class coverage, as needed, in the event of a coverage gap
Minimum Qualifications
- Provide TB clearance and background clearance from FBI and DOJ
- Provide 48 semester college units or pass the Instructional Aide exam
- Two years of work experience as an afterschool program instructor or equivalent
- Ability to coordinate operational systems
- Ability to communicate with youth, parents, teachers, school administrators, and various other stakeholders
- Commitment to Oakland leaf mission and core values
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required
Working conditions/physical demands
- Normal school and office conditions
- Offsite meetings
- Required to work some nights for events
- Must be able to lift up to 25lb
Work Schedule and Period
- Note: This is a full time, seasonal position
- Monday through Friday, 10:30 AM to to 6:30 PM through Friday, May 30, 2025 excluding school holidays and breaks
Compensation
- $40,000 to $50,000, depending on experience
- Paid school breaks
