The Menaul location of PRESNow is seeking an EMT-I.
Performs advanced patient care procedures (such as, initiation of intravenous therapy, splinting, casting, suturing, and simple patient teaching) under the direction of a licensed Nurse or Physician and/or performs advanced support-procedures for the operation of a Nursing or Clinical unit. Coordinates equipment and/or supply systems. Responsible for the delivery of quality care to patients under varied conditions.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma required and the completion of the formal Emergency Medical Technicians-Intermediate (EMT-I) course is required. Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required. 1-2 years experience preferred, but not required. Formal medical technician or military training preferred, but not required.
Ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions is required. Receives on-the-job training/ competency verification to perform primary functions. Maintains annual current department competencies and Employee Health Requirements.

Responsibilities:
Monitors patients and collects information for accurate documentation in the patient record. Stamps and assembles patient charts. Transports patients and documents action on patient record. Monitors patients and collects information for documentation in patient record. Collects and records vital signs in patient record. Provides simple patient teaching and discharge instructions.
*Inserts and removes peripheral intravenous therapy lines under the direction of a physician. Performs phlebotomy.
*Initiates IV fluid therapy.
*Performs wound care, dressing changes, sutures or staples wounds under the direction of a physician and in accordance with departmental based competency validation and assessment.
*Initiates care as directed by RN.
*Prepares patients for surgery. Inserts and removes gastric and urethral tubes.
*Performs enemas
*Performs splinting, casting based upon instruction and departmental competency assessment applies plaster and fiberglass splints, and traction devices.
*Performs bedside testing such as oximetry, ECG, Glucometry, urinalysis breathalyzer, and other POC testing.
*Coordinates and maintains specific equipment and/or supply systems.
*Operates patient monitoring systems specific to unit needs (such as, cardiac monitoring).
*Uses the EMR at the skill level commensurate with the responsibilities included in this description.
*Ensure a clean work environment. This may include duties such as emptying trash, mopping floors, and cleaning counters. Ensures cleanliness of nutrition areas and general unit. Cleans and stores equipment. Empties trash, linen bags and sharps containers.
*Stocks medical supplies, linens and paper goods. Inventories equipment as required. Processes broken equipment as directed. Maintains equipment logs as required.
*Delivers specimens to Laboratory, Microbiology and Pathology. Transports x-rays, blood and equipment
*Participates in the nutritional well-being of the patient through tray delivery, assistance with patient set-up, assists those patients that are dependent for their intake needs, and accurately records consumption.
*Administers oxygen under the direction of a licensed Nurse. Assists nurses and physicians with sterile procedures. Assists with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing and walking patients.
*Assists or provides patient hygiene to include, shaving, oral care, foot care, pericare, and bathing.
*Assists patients with portable or wall oxygen and assures proper storage of E cylinders
*Organizes care in a manner that contributes to the overall quality of the team.
*Attends department staff meetings and/or in-services and keeps current with developments in the field through participation in seminars, workshops and/or publications. Participates in and endorses the established Presbyterian Healthcare Services (PHS) patient satisfaction programs
*Communicates information pertinent to the end of shift summation before leaving the unit and provides safe pt hand off when transferring care.
*Maintains positive communications and collaboration with Emergency Department staff /providers regarding patient status and/or problems.
