About the Job
Working under the supervision of the Clinical Shift Manager, and in collaboration with the nursing and physician staff, the emergency technician assists in providing timely and appropriate patient-family centered care for all patients in the Emergency Department.
Responsible for responding to requests by the nursing staff or physician staffs to assist with emergency care within the emergency department according to protocols and polices approved by the hospital and emergency department medical director, and hospital policy. Performs other duties related to the provision of care as assigned after appropriate training.
Responsibilities:Working under the supervision of the Clinical Shift Manager, the Emergency Room Tech performs various patient care activities necessary in caring for the personal needs, comfort and safety of the patients. Some examples are:
Responds to requests for Emergency Department Technician level services from areas within the emergency department in a timely and safe manner.
Completes documentation and records according to department policy.
Ensures emergency preparedness equipment is ready for response at all times.
Assists with codes and critical care patients within the emergency department at the Emergency Department Technician level, including interdepartmental transport and monitoring.
The Emergency Department Technician performs assigned duties in the emergency department under the supervision of Nursing with documentation of proper training and skills evaluation.
Assists charge nurse and/or triage nurse in data collecting, patient flow and assists in reassessing vital signs for patient waiting to be seen.
Responsibilities to Redinet and EMS communication.
Responsibilities may include assisting EMS providers with supply restocking in accordance with hospital agreements with individual providers.
Pursues new levels in Emergency Room Technician technology and participates in activities which contribute to professional growth and development.
Participates in community activities, which improve the public’s understanding of the EMS system.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe role responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and interdepartmentally to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Qualifications:Minimum Education:
High school graduate or equivalent required
Required Certifications
Current BLS
Completion of basic arrhythmia course/competency exam - (within 90 days of hire)
MAB (AB508) – (within 90 days of hire)
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Medical terminology
General clerical and computer knowledge
Monitor Technician experience in acute setting preferred
12 lead EKG experience preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish / Chinese preferred
