People, Incorporated is seeking a creative and forward-thinking Employee Relations Manager. Reporting to the Director of Human Resource, this position is responsible for supporting the Human Resources Department (HR) through investigations, HR training/development, professional development and positive discipline functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide advice and counsel to managers and supervisors regarding personnel practices, policy, policy interpretation, and employment laws.
- Provide appropriate responses to any related employment issues and employee-related issues, along with discipline and discharge.
- Complete full-cycle investigations, providing recommendations and solutions aligned with HR best practice, Agency policy, program operations, and funding source recommendations.
- Manage the Positive Discipline process.
- Assist in investigating and evaluating cases of employee dissatisfaction or misconduct.
- Interview employees and other relevant stakeholders in order to effectively and impartially assess the situation or perceived problem.
- Collaborate and consult with various individuals and departments, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of management, employees, and subject matter experts, such as Legal and funding sources as needed, to coordinate investigation-related activities and determine outcome recommendations.
- Work closely with program management to ensure constant collaboration, communication, and training to provide counsel and facilitate prompt and effective resolution of workplace conflict, which addresses issues for employees, managers, and leaders in a manner consistent with Agency policies, practices, and legal considerations.
- Identify opportunities for improving ER policies and procedures and HR-based training for managers and employees based on trends.
- Design and implement HR-based trainings for managers and employees.
- Provide manager-specific HR training to review expectations around employee relations and Positive Discipline.
- Develop a full understanding of Agency trainings and act as a backup trainer for the Agency.
- Provide site-specific training at houses and/or programs in support of management to address conflict or other employee/HR-related issues.
- Provide orientation training specific to the Agency expectations on professionalism, Employment Manual policy, and conflict resolution.
- Manage and provide support on the Agency’s evaluation process.
- Design, implement, and manage the Professional Development program within the Agency, collaborating with the community to find ways to support development efforts.
- Collaborate with management and the Recruiter to provide professional development to employees of the Agency, including maintaining proper documentation and managing follow-up of employee and managers.
- Support retention efforts by obtaining information specific to conducting exit and transfer interviews, while identifying areas of action.
- Support the Agency’s efforts to streamline the supervision process and/or any training related to conducting supervisions.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of information including, but not limited to, conversations, documents, files, complaints, and investigations.
- Promote direct communication, proactive problem resolution, and positive rapport amongst employees and managers.
- Assist with unemployment insurance processes and unemployment hearings.
- Recommend policy changes to the Quality Assurance Director.
- Conduct Positive Discipline audits for non-Residential programs and provide appropriate feedback.
- Manage the process of collecting discipline for terminations.
- Manage the process for disseminating discipline to various managers for employees who transfer or are promoted.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Quality Assurance Director and/or Vice President.
- Participate in all staff meetings and required training sessions, including in-service training, as scheduled.
- Maintain all program and Agency required trainings.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field plus 3 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Human Resources and Employee Relations experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point).
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Skill in organization, prioritization, and working independently.
- Ability to communicate and work with others cooperatively.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Investigative experience a plus.
- A qualifying criminal background check, driving record and a valid driver’s license
