Job Details
The Employee Benefits Department Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the account management team and support staff within the employee benefits division. This role ensures smooth operations, excellent client service, and adherence to company goals. The manager coordinates with department heads, producers, and clients to manage employee benefits programs, and provides strategic direction to meet client needs efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management:
Supervise and mentor the account management staff, ensuring timely and accurate client service and policy administration.
Oversee the manager of assistants and all administrative staff, delegating tasks as necessary and ensuring high standards of performance.
Provide leadership and guidance to the team, including conducting performance reviews, offering professional development opportunities, and addressing employee concerns.
Client Relationship Management:
Act as the senior point of contact for high-level client issues and escalations.
Collaborate with account managers to develop and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring client satisfaction and retention.
Assist with complex employee benefits issues and work with the account management team to deliver customized solutions.
Operational Oversight:
Develop and implement processes to enhance the efficiency of account and administrative teams.
Monitor workload distribution, workflow management, and adherence to deadlines to optimize department performance.
Oversee the coordination of renewals, open enrollments, and compliance efforts, ensuring all deadlines are met.
Strategic Planning & Process Improvement:
Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute department strategies that align with overall company goals.
Identify areas for process improvements and implement best practices to increase team efficiency and productivity.
Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive products, adjusting departmental procedures and client strategies accordingly.
Compliance & Regulatory Management:
Ensure the department is fully compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Oversee the preparation and submission of regulatory documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with deadlines.
Cross-Department Collaboration:
Work closely with the sales, claims, and finance teams to ensure cohesive service delivery and clear communication across departments.
Partner with HR to address staffing needs, recruitment, and training for new hires within the department.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field.
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in employee benefits, including experience in a leadership or management role.
Strong understanding of employee benefits administration, including self-funding, level-funding, compliance, and benefits technology platforms.
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Proven ability to manage a team and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in using employee benefits software and management systems (e.g., EPIC, HRIS platforms).
Skills
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Highly organized with an eye for detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
