Position Overview
As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll play a key role in ensuring our patients receive personalized care. From assisting veterinarians during medical procedures to comforting pets and their families, your contributions will directly impact the lives we serve. Responsibilities include:
As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll play a key role in ensuring our patients receive personalized care. From assisting veterinarians during medical procedures to comforting pets and their families, your contributions will directly impact the lives we serve. Responsibilities include:
- Supporting veterinarians and technicians (LVTs) by setting up for exams and procedures.
- Safely restraining pets to ensure effective and gentle care.
- Enhancing clinic efficiency by managing routine tasks and allowing technicians to focus on advanced medical procedures.
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities Will Include:
- Assisting veterinarians and technicians during medical exams, procedures, and surgeries.
- Safely restraining pets of varying sizes and temperaments.
- Preparing and maintaining exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical supplies.
- Conducting basic lab procedures, including fecal exams, heartworm tests, skin scrapings, and urinalysis.
- Taking and assisting in acquiring high-quality diagnostic radiographs.
- Keeping accurate and legible medical records.
- Providing client education on follow-up care, homecare instructions, and treatment estimates.
- Admitting patients according to hospital policies and doctor instructions.
- Ensuring the hospital remains clean, organized, and ready for daily operations.
- Participating in hospital teamwork and fostering positive relationships with colleagues.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise:
Education & Licensure
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- On-the-job training or prior experience in animal care is desirable but not required.
Personal Requirements
- Minimum of 18 years old.
- Passion for working with animals, including in stressful or challenging situations.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during medical crises.
- Strong verbal communication skills and a mature, team-oriented approach to work.
- Physically capable of lifting animals (over 40 lbs with assistance) and working on feet for extended periods.
- Willingness to work in conditions involving potential exposure to odors, noises, animal waste, bites, scratches, and diseases.
