The George Washington University Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) provides comprehensive care for patients experiencing acute medical conditions, trauma, and critical illnesses. As a Level I Trauma Center, the ED at GW Hospital is equipped to handle the most complex emergency cases, with highly specialized teams available 24/7.

• The Emergency Department is a 62-bed unit, including resuscitation rooms, fast-track areas, and specialized spaces for trauma, cardiac emergencies, and stroke.
• Our ED is supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities, with rapid access to radiology, laboratory, and surgical services.
• The ED is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, and a highly skilled team of emergency-trained nurses.

Our focus is on delivering immediate, patient-centered care while maintaining close collaboration with other specialty areas for seamless patient transitions and long-term outcomes.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to join our Emergency Department team. The EMT will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care, supporting our nursing and physician teams, and ensuring the smooth operation of the ED.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the care of emergency patients by performing tasks such as vital sign monitoring, EKGs, and patient transport.
• Maintain a clean and organized environment by preparing exam rooms, restocking supplies, and ensuring equipment is functional.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide efficient and effective patient care.
• Support physicians and nurses during procedures and in emergency situations.
• Document care and observations in the patient’s medical record according to hospital standards.
• Adhere to all safety, infection control, and patient privacy protocols.

• Required: Current EMT certification (National or DC).
• Required: CPR/BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
• Preferred: Experience in an emergency or acute care setting.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to handle high-stress situations with professionalism and empathy.
