Emergency DepartmentTechnician for Emory Midtown Hospital
responsible for being a capable certified technician who cares about the quality of their work an ensuring the safety for all patients. This individual will: + Ensures general patient satisfaction, including but not limited to providing blankets, food, and updates on treatment status. Focuses education of their daily clinical situation and adherence to Standards of Care. Performs peripheral IV placement, specimen collection, general phlebotomy and blood cultures, and placement of urinary catherers. + Ensures that all procedures are properly documented. Responsible for the placement of all varieties of simple orthoglass splints and all forms of pre-made splints, such as knee immobilizers and slings. + Performs general wound care, bandaging, and wound irrigation. Eye irrigation with both directly applied normal saline and Morgan lens. Takes vital signs. Performs accuchecks. Transports patients to and from diagnostic tests as well as to floor beds. + Assists in acute and code situations. Is familiar with all aspects of emergency situations and works with MD and RN to support care of the patient. + Familiar with and able to function as a member of the Code Blue disaster team. Works as a team member in triaging, staging and treating disaster patients Assists in the care of acute patients and is competent in: defibrillating pts with an AED, suctioning pts, placing pts on monitors and defibrillators. + Performing EKGs and other POC testing. Sorts through initial complaints of patients in the waiting room. Assist with patient flow when ER becomes crowded. Notifies the RN or Physician of possibly critical patients. + Explains delays in treatment to patients in waiting area. Collaborates with other staff in delivering patient care. Interacts with and establishes professional relationships with members of the patient care team. + Oversees obtaining equipment and conducts needs analysis to increase supplies based on ED volume. Monitors stock and supplies to ensure par levels are maintained. Complies with Standard Precautions guidelines and all other Infection Control procedures and safety standards to maintain and promote a clean and healthy work environment. + Performs clerical duties when required, to include answering phones and directing all inquiries from other physicians, departments, and pharmacies. Ensuring that physician orders are put correctly into the computer. Facilitating the acqusition of diagnostic studies as appropriate. May be required to obtain medical records from other hospitals. Performs other duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: + High School graduate or equivalent, preferred. + Graduate of an accredited EMT-Advanced or EMT-Intermediate training program. + One year related experience preferred. + Previous ED experience preferred. + Must have current certification as an EMT-I, EMT-A, or EMT-P, and CPR.
