About the role
Forterra is seeking a talented and experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for embedded systems development and a strong background in software engineering principles. As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and optimizing embedded software solutions for our autonomous driving systems. What you"ll do
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded software applications on a variety of software platforms and devices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications.
- Implement and optimize software algorithms for real-time performance and resource-constrained environments.
- Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and debugging of embedded software components.
- Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in embedded systems development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor"s or Master"s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Solid understanding of embedded systems architecture, microcontrollers, and real-time operating systems.
- Proficiency in debugging and troubleshooting embedded software issues using tools such as JTAG, gdb, or oscilloscopes.
- Familiarity with software development tools and version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Experience working real-time operating systems(RTOS) (e.g. FreeRTOS, QNX).
- Experience reading schematics and integrated circuit datasheets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ARM Cortex-M/R/A processors or similar embedded platforms.
- Knowledge of software development methodologies such as Agile or Scrum.
- Knowledge of sensor technologies used in autonomous vehicles, including cameras, LiDAR, radar, and GPS.
- Familiarity with safety-critical software development standards (e.g. ISO 26262).
- Experience with embedded Linux development and device drivers.
- Understanding of hardware design principles and digital electronics.
Education & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in embedded software development, preferably in C/C++.
- Experience with communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, and wireless protocols (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi).
The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Equity in Forterra is included in most of our full-time, high-demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra's overall compensation package.
