Luminator is seeking to fill our full-time Embedded Software Engineer role to join our growing and dynamic Aerospace Engineering Team where you will be an integral part of the team by providing valuable input as we work toward assessing and implementing goals and mission of the department and Luminator.
The successful Embedded Software Engineer is goal-oriented and possesses the ability to prioritize on a consistent basis in an ever-changing environment. They have excellent analytical, negotiation, organization, and presentation skills and strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management or other outside partners. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining embedded software for our Aerospace products in accordance with industry best practices. This role also creates and optimizes code, integrates real-time operating systems, develops device drivers, and ensures seamless interaction between hardware and software components while delivering reliable and efficient embedded systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Embedded Software Development: Develop and implement embedded software solutions for Aerospace lighting products using C and other relevant programming languages.
- RTOS Integration: Design, configure, and integrate real-time operating systems (RTOS) into the embedded software architecture.
- Device Driver Development: Create and maintain device drivers and peripheral communication protocols to ensure seamless interaction between hardware components and software.
- Debugging and Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve software defects, system malfunctions, and performance bottlenecks through debugging and testing.
- Code Optimization: Continuously optimize software code for memory and performance efficiency, ensuring that the embedded system operates at its full potential.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, firmware engineers, and QA testers, to ensure smooth integration of software components.
- Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for software design, coding standards, and project-related information.
- Compliance: Ensure that embedded software adheres to industry standards, safety regulations, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in software testing, verification, and validation activities to ensure the reliability and robustness of the embedded systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The Embedded Software Engineer will be an experienced, operationally oriented professional who can successfully lead as a very hands-on Engineer to scale for additional growth and maximize potential.
This professional will possess:
- Computers and Electronics — Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
- Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
- English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

- Proficiency with other Microsoft Office applications is required, including but not limited to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Prior experience with electrical systems: Altium, LTSpice, SolidWorks preferred.
- 0-3 years of relevant experience. Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field required. Advanced degree preferred.
ADDITIONAL PRIORITIES:
The Embedded Software Engineer will prioritize and broadly execute the following:
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, and Rust.
- Strong understanding of microcontroller/microprocessor architectures.
- Experience with debugging tools and software development environments
- Familiarity with communication protocols (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C) and hardware interfaces
- Knowledge of software version control systems (e.g., Subversion, Git) is a plus
- Knowledge of National Instruments LabVIEW/LabWindows is a plus
- Knowledge of FreeRTOS or Micrium RTOS is a plus
- Experience writing code for regulated industries such as medical or aerospace is a plus
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio is beneficial.
LOCATION:
Plano is a city in the state of Texas, just north of downtown Dallas. It is a hub for many corporate headquarters and has been rated by Forbes as the safest city in 2011. Plano has many visitors, 80% of which are business travelers. The Preston Road area is home to major corporate headquarters of Fortune 1000 companies which have brought thousands of jobs to the area.
Plano has two major space reserves: Arbor Hills Nature Preserve (200 acres) and Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve (800 acres). Bob Woodruff Park and Oak Point Park are connected by biking trails providing an abundance of outdoor recreation for families in Plano. These parks also include activities such as zip lining and Tarzan swings. They have five recreation centers that feature pools, dog parks, and amphitheaters for entertainment. This represents 84 parks. They feature an annual balloon festival every September that draws thousands.
Collin College has two campuses in Plano. Southern Methodist University (SMU) and Dallas Baptist University also have campuses in Plano. There are 70 public schools and 16 private schools. Plano has more graduates than other comparable communities in Texas, graduating 93% of their classes, and score 18 percentage points higher than the same population in Dallas. Many graduate as National Merit Scholars.
Plano is served by the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). They provide commuter services via bus and light rail systems. The system is used by 1% of the population.
As far as arts, culture, and entertainment, Plano is home to over 700 restaurants. There is a thriving downtown scene that is rated in the top ten within the country. This includes new office spaces as well as major retail establishments. Plano is a major, busy, bustling city and one of the best places in the United States to live.
