POSITION SUMMARY:
At Rock Academy, substitute teachers play a vital role in nurturing students both academically and spiritually, embodying Christ-centered values in their educational practice. Substitute teachers uphold classroom management and implement prepared lesson plans during the absence of regular teachers, ensuring continuity in students' learning experiences aligned with the school's mission.
Substitute teachers have a profound impact on the lives of their students. When a teacher has a planned or unplanned absence, we rely on a skilled substitute to fill in. In this role, the substitute will cover for an absent full-time teacher, adhering to the day's lesson plan and ensuring that students have a fulfilling learning experience. The ideal candidate will have substitute-teaching experience and an ability to lead classrooms effectively. The most qualified and successful substitutes can count on consistent work throughout the district.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Substitute teachers are integral to maintaining educational continuity when regular teachers are absent. They are responsible for executing lesson plans provided by classroom teachers, fostering a safe and productive learning environment, and adhering to school policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include:
LESSON PLAN EXECUTION: Implementing lesson plans effectively to meet educational objectives as outlined by the absent teacher.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT: Maintaining discipline and promoting a positive learning atmosphere conducive to student engagement and growth.
EMERGENCY PROTOCOLS: Familiarizing oneself with and adhering to school emergency procedures, including fire drills and lockdowns, to ensure student safety.
RECORD KEEPING: Recording student attendance, lesson plan progress, disciplinary actions, and positive developments to provide feedback to the regular teacher.
ADDITIONAL CLASSROOM SUPPORT: Assigning homework, supplementing lesson plans with relevant activities, and supporting students' academic needs as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S. or greater) from an accredited institution in education or a related field. Candidates authorized to work in the US.
EXPERIENCE: Preferred three years of experience in education, with substitute teaching experience highly valued. California teaching credential is preferred but not required.
SKILLS: Effective communication skills both orally and in writing, ability to work with diverse student backgrounds, and proficiency in technology relevant to classroom instruction. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Regular duties include sitting, standing, walking, operating computers and office equipment, and occasionally lifting and moving up to 25 pounds.
