Job Details
Key Responsibilities:
New Product Introduction (NPI) and Manufacturing Coordination:
Drive NPI Process: Oversee the transition of products from R&D to production, ensuring that all stages (e.g., BOM release, documentation, testing, etc.) align with the latest product specifications. Manage the engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure all deliverables (e.g., design documentation, test plans, final BOM) are completed on time and meet quality standards.
Cross-Functional Team Leadership: Lead and manage a matrixed team that includes mechanical, electrical, test, and firmware engineers, industrial designers, and project managers. Work closely with product planning, procurement, supply chain, and external manufacturers to ensure smooth product launches and resolve any production issues that arise.
Risk Management: Proactively manage risks throughout the entire product lifecycle—from concept through to mass production. Develop and implement mitigation strategies to address potential delays, quality issues, or cost overruns, ensuring timely and successful product launches.
Coordinate with External Manufacturers: Collaborate closely with Contract Electronics Manufacturers (CEMs) like Foxconn, Flextronics, and others. Ensure that CMs align with the product specifications, manufacturing schedules, and quality requirements. Manage material procurement and logistics to ensure timely availability for production.
Project Planning, Cost Management, and Reporting:
Project Planning & Milestone Management: Own the project timeline, including resource planning, milestone definition, and tracking progress against deliverables. Provide regular updates on project status, budget, and timelines to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Cost Management & Cost Reduction (CR): Lead cost-reduction initiatives, including sourcing and qualifying suppliers to drive procurement cost down. Collaborate with global teams to execute cost-down activities, working through qualifications and testing to ensure the timely introduction of localized parts.
Documentation and Reporting: Oversee the creation and maintenance of essential project documentation, including development packages (e.g., BOMs, schematics, GERBER files), test plans, meeting minutes, and status reports. Ensure that all documentation is uploaded to appropriate systems (e.g., SharePoint, Agile) for accessibility by all stakeholders.
Project Budget Management: Manage the project budget, ensuring that all costs (materials, tooling, labor) are within scope. Approve and track project expenditures, managing variances and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
Collaboration & Communication:
Internal & External Collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal teams (e.g., Quick Turn, R&D, Sales, Planning, SQE, etc.) and external CMs to ensure smooth execution of the product lifecycle, including handling any engineering changes, deviations, or production challenges.
Vendor & Supplier Management: Work with vendors, Tier 2/3 suppliers, and contract manufacturers to ensure that production materials are sourced correctly and that any special materials are handled appropriately, such as long lead-time parts or spot-buy decisions.
Cross-Functional Communication: Drive communication and coordination across teams to ensure alignment on project goals, milestones, and potential issues. Regularly facilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including weekly status reviews with CMs and project teams.
Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Sharing:
Encourage Knowledge Sharing: Lead by example and encourage local project managers to present their findings, comments, ideas, and suggestions for improving NPI and project management activities. Facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices within the team.
Process Optimization: Work with internal teams and external partners to continually optimize processes, whether in product design, manufacturing, or supply chain management, to improve efficiency and reduce time-to-market.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or related field.
Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of project management experience in NPI or manufacturing operations, ideally in the electronics or hardware industry.
Leadership Experience: Proven track record of managing cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, and product managers.
Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of product development processes, including BOM management, DFM (Design for Manufacturability), and DFT (Design for Test). Familiarity with PCB design, mechanical design, and testing processes is a plus.
Risk & Cost Management: Experience in risk management throughout the project lifecycle and a strong understanding of cost-reduction strategies in a manufacturing environment.
Project Management Skills: Expertise in project planning, scheduling, and milestone tracking. Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira, MS Project, or similar.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Mandarin. Proven ability to communicate effectively with global teams, vendors, and senior leadership.
Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly in resolving production or quality issues and implementing corrective actions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications: PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent.
Experience with Global Manufacturing Transitions: Experience in transferring products across global contract manufacturers and managing related challenges (e.g., logistics, tooling, and material handling).
Experience in Cost Reduction Projects: Background in sourcing and managing supplier relationships for cost-down initiatives in manufacturing.
