Electro-Optical Systems Test Engineer
Gamma Scientific is a leader in developing advanced light measurement equipment for a broad range of applications including Augmented and Virtual Reality, Medical, Highway Safety, Aerospace, and others. At present, we are actively seeking an Electro-Optical Systems Test Engineer responsible for testing, characterizing, and validating electro-optical modules and systems. A key focal area for this role (though not limited to) are Near Eye Display (NED) Metrology Systems for AR / VR devices. The ability to work effectively with internal cross functional teams and with our customers is vital for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Gain deep understanding of the core technology elements (Optical, Mechanical, Electrical, and Software) comprising of the Near Eye Display (NED) Metrology Systems along with the key measurement features.
- On-going validation / ’end user’ testing of the systems. Identifying potential opportunities for further enhancement and providing feedback to the Engineering team members.
- Obtain familiarity with the relevant standards governing the measurements.
- Serve as a project manager, as needed, for development of new features or products for NED benchtop solutions.
- Develop engineering documentation consistent with the product development process and support generation of application information including white papers, manuals, procedures, and datasheets.
- Understanding and representing user needs (thru internal commercial team and direct customer
interactions). Outlining requirements for the rest of the Engineering team.
- Defining a vision for a product working with internal and external stake holders.
- Prioritizing product features and capabilities.
- Monitoring the market and developing competitive analyses.
- Work collaboratively and professionally with other Gamma Scientific associates in cross functional teams to achieve organizational goals.
- Apply a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities in executing tasks in a timely fashion.
- Ability to multi-task and support multiple projects at a given time.
- Travel domestically and internationally to interface with customers as needed.
- Stay abreast of the technical evolutions in the application spaces supported by Gamma Scientific.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Significant background in system testing, characterization, and measurements.
- Experience with electro-optical imaging systems and lighting systems.
- Understanding of circuit design and knowledge of circuit theory, ICs, micro-controllers, FPGAs, electro-optical sensors, firmware, and controls.
- Basic understanding of optics and electro-optics.
- Ability to develop test programs in Matlab, Labview, and / or Python.
- Product development and product launch experience.
- Solid Project Management skills.
- Knowledge of AR and VR systems, spectroradiometery, photometry, and colorimetry is desired.
- General PC skills in Windows environment including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Software Engineering or equivalent is required (a graduate degree is preferred).
