Summary: The Electrician Technician is responsible for safely maintaining, repairing, replacing, and modifying all processing, packaging, and facility electrical equipment with optimal quality and efficiency.
Job Function Statements Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Compliance to SOP's, GMPs, Housekeeping, Safety, and all other FE policies.
- Assists the supervisor with the execution of daily activities. This also includes training and monitoring the work of such employees to ensure work meets expectations. Reports variances or shortfalls to supervisor/manager as needed.
- Operate CMMS system and demonstrate 100% functionality in order to complete work orders as well as log corrective maintenance issues in the system.
- Effectively communicate with Technical Support, production personnel and other mechanics to identify problematic areas of concern; provide and receive feedback and/or support through collection and analysis of information.
- Maintain equipment and perform basic and more complex electrical tasks to keep equipment in optimal operational condition; Electrician is expected to repair 100% of equipment without direction.
- Perform electrical repairs and troubleshoot for the following: PLC Controls, AC & DC motor controls, solid state motor controls, advance circuits and grounding, interpret diagrams, and test equipment.
- Assists in the procurement of parts and planning of repairs.
- Leads complex projects, preventive maintenance activities and repairs across the facility.
- Operate CMMS system and demonstrate 100% functionality in order to complete work orders as well as log corrective maintenance issues in the system.
- Support facility maintenance equipment, which includes the following: waste water equipment, compressed air, refrigeration and building safety equipment.
- Must demonstrate an understanding of the company's objectives including productivity, yields, food safety, quality, customer service and cost goals; daily work activities should support achieving those goals.
- Oversee or perform (as needed) daily inspections, emergency repairs, routine adjustments and follow periodic preventive maintenance schedule.
- Maintain organized documentation and inspection records; be prepared for a facility audit of such records and related processes.
- Model professional workplace conduct and adherence to company policies such as the Code of Conduct, attendance, punctuality, efficient and productive work habits, and good personal hygiene.
- Provide support to Process Improvement (PI) projects and participate on safety teams.
- Serve as a resource to others in order to resolve electrical and/or people issues.
- Employees may be assigned to perform other tasks on a temporary basis.
- Responsible for actively supporting the other members of the employee's work team including assisting with cross-training, new-hire/buddy assignments, and process support during breaks, meal periods, and other staff coverage as needed.
- Test equipment within the skill range.
- Read schematics, drawings, diagrams, and manuals to establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Troubleshoot electrical and pneumatic issues (logic and control circuits) and perform emergency repairs; identify and repair problematic issues concerning all equipment and machinery, including finding innovative solutions to occurring problems.
- Program and install frequency drives on equipment.
- Design control panels and refurbish the old one.
- Develop safe operation instructions.
- Provide assistance to build, install start-up, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial control network systems.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
Physical Requirements:
The employee is required to stand for extended periods of time (duration of the shift, 8 hours or more); walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; bend continuously, or crawl. The incumbent must be able to climb stairs and ladders or step up onto a platform several times throughout the shift and is occasionally required to sit. The employee must be able to push/pull/lift and/or move 50 pounds. The incumbent must operate light motorized equipment, hand, and power tools skillfully and safely.
Work Environment:
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet/cold conditions of 34 36 degrees and also at times hot conditions; high, precarious places (ex: 25 feet above ground level for extended hours); and outside weather conditions (rooftop). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud, which may require hearing protection.
- Must possess experience programming and installing frequency drives on equipment
- Electrical installation skills and troubleshooting experience with control circuits
- Ability to design control panels and refurbish the old one
- Ability to read and understand electrical and PLC diagrams
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code
- Ability to work with single and three-phase voltage
- Must be capable of reading electrical/mechanical blueprints
- Capable of troubleshooting and making the repairs on AB PLCs (programmable logic controllers)
- Ability to use a Computerized Maintenance Management System to track work orders, PM's, and inventory
- Ability to read, write and speak English required
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to demonstrate math skills as part of the daily activities such as fractions, decimals, percentages, and the metric system; efficient with ratios, metric system, and formulas
- Familiarity with preventive or reliability based maintenance
- Program AB PLC controls
- Knowledge of other PLC control manufacturers: GE FANUC, OMRON, etc.
- Ability to build control panels
- Knowledge and troubleshooting skills for robotic systems
- Mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills
- Must achieve a passing score on the Ramsay exam
Position Experience Qualifications
- 5-7 years of experience with industrial, high-speed processing, packaging, and inspection equipment.
- Food processing industry experience preferred
Education & Training Preferred
- Minimum of a High School diploma/GED, some Technical School coursework, or Mechanical
