About the Job
Member and partner of the household care delivery team. Plan, perform and delegate installation, testing, inspection, preventive maintenance and repair duties involving electric lights, power distribution circuits, controls, low voltage systems and appliances throughout the facility buildings and grounds. Report to the Director of Engineering/Supervisor. Receive and review work orders and make assignments to electricians. Coordinate schedules and projects with the Director of Engineering/Supervisor. Estimate time and materials and obtain necessary permits as required. Work with outside vendors and contractors as needed. Call outside contractors and vendors as needed to maintain the electrical system. Order necessary stock and make emergency repairs without prior approval. Request relevant electrical supplies and tools.
Responsibilities:
Core Functions:
- Review work orders and delegate assignments
- Coordinate schedules and projects with the Engineering Director
- Coordinate annual testing of all high voltage switchgear, and feed circuits to conform to all regulatory requirements
- Keep number of electrical outages to a minimum, keep affected department informed of these outages
- Determine backup emergency power needs
- Determine appropriate times for testing emergency power system and work with Maintenance Mechanics to perform the monthly load test of the emergency generator system.
- Actively participate in the implementation and ongoing evaluation of preventive maintenance systems.
- Work closely with the Engineering Director to provide for the electrical safety of all patients, visitors, and staff through an appropriately and safely maintained plant and environment as prescribed in the Massachusetts Electrical Code and NFPA Code requirements
- Maintain facility nurse-call system, paging, mechanical alarm and medical gas, medical air and medical Vac Systems
- Repair electric motors, controllers and other auxiliary electrical devices.
- Make emergency repairs to medical equipment
- Install new wiring and electric machinery, work from prints and diagrams to determine layout, location and specifications of items to install
- Bend and install conduit
- Install concealed wiring
- Carry Blanket Electrical Permit for HRC
- Isolate and repair defective circuits as required
- Dismantle electrical machinery and break connections; replace defective parts; reassemble and test for proper operation
- Check and repair lighting systems
- Take monthly inventory of stock and requisition supplies as needed to maintain adequate supply.
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition following prescribed safety regulations
- Maintain CATV cabling system throughout the facility when needed and troubleshoot the system to determine where problems or damage may have occurred
- Assist the fire alarm testing company as needed to maintain facility fire alarm system
- Assist in all other areas as needed
- Maintain the facility’s electrical distribution systems according to the national, state and local electrical codes and facility regulatory agencies
- Maintain a safe electrical environment for facility staff, patients and visitors
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of all facility and patient related information
- Reports any equipment found to be unsafe or broken immediately to supervisor
