ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking an Electrician at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. (1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT). Marine transportation furnished by Government provided ferry.
Summary:
Perform a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution or utilization of electric energy. Work involves installing or repairing any of a variety of electrical equipment, such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating unit, conduit systems or other transmission equipment. Electrical services and plant are in operation on a continuous basis providing power to island facilities, research laboratory and ancillary facilities 24/7 365 days per year. Maintenance and repair of units as well as associated equipment is performed as required by schedule or need. Respond to facility outages and recover power as applicable. Troubleshoot and maintain interior and exterior distribution systems and electrical equipment installations. Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.
Roles/Responsibilities:
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Perform other duties as assigned by department manager.
- Journeyman level experienced with interior and exterior systems and electrical equipment installation and maintenance.
- Must be knowledgeable with generators, substations, transformers, breakers, heating units, controls, motors, relays, etc.
- Ability to read and follow wiring diagrams that specify where wiring, fixtures, and controls are installed or are to be hooked up and show the type of wiring, fittings, and equipment installed or to be used.
- Knowledge of how various electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls are installed, operate, and work together to support industrial operations, computer complexes, or similar complex electrical loads.
