About the State Fair of Texas
Since its inception in 1886, the State Fair of Texas has celebrated all things Texan by promoting agriculture, education, and community involvement through quality entertainment in a family-friendly environment. The State Fair of Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with proceeds helping to preserve and improve our home, Fair Park; underwrite museums, community initiatives, and scholarship programs to support students throughout the Lone Star State pursuing higher education; and help improve State Fair operations.
SUMMARY
Ensure all electrical operations are completed in compliance with all applicable safety codes and SFT standards and regulations; maintain and repair all electrical equipment including SFT buildings and grounds. Assist in obtaining electrical permits for all SFT activities, including, but not limited to rides, shows, tents, stables, stands, and any daily electrical needs of the SFT grounds.
Support inspection of premises and buildings for the maintenance of existing electrical systems and upgrade those systems to maintain compliance with state and local electrical codes and ordinances. Under the direction of the Chief Electrician, install new electrical operations for SFT exhibits including all booths, stages, exhibits, and tents. Troubleshoot and maintain electrical on grounds. Assist with the dismantling of electrical services after fair.
Qualifications
- Understanding and alignment with the core values of the State Fair of Texas.
- Principles, practices, methods and techniques of electrical inspection and code enforcement.
- Electrical codes and standards, basic understanding of building requirements, and other applicable systems.
- Building construction techniques and processes.
- Industry standards and specifications for public service construction projects.
- Accepted safety standards and methods of construction and electrical activities.
- Basic mathematics as applied to electrical/construction/inspection work.
- Pertinent Federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations affecting health and safety.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Any combination of experience that would likely provide the required knowledge is qualifying:
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or higher level of education.
- Previous work experience as an electrician.
- Oral and written communication.
License or Certificate:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate Texas driver's license.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED and EXERCISED
- Reports to Chief Electrician
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions:
- Working outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven and/or slippery surfaces, as necessary, especially during Fair time and special events.
Physical Conditions:
- Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for
- Remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
- Moving short and long distances to access office supplies, meet guests, perform duties within Fairgrounds, etc.
- Verbally communicate with both internal and external contacts.
- Occasionally lift objects no more than 25 pounds unassisted.
Work Schedules:
- Varies depending on events.
