Job Description
The purpose of this position is to provide essential technical knowledge and perform design work as described below. This role serves as a staff designer performing assignments of intermediate complexity.
- Design Work:Prepare and check designs of intermediate complexity using 3D modeling and 2D computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) automation tools under direct supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Design Supervisor.
- Coordination:Collaborate with other disciplines, project management, vendors, and clients to resolve technical issues.
- Compliance:Ensure all work adheres to the Project Quality Plan, procedures, and approved project scope, cost, and schedule baselines.
- Material Analysis:Perform bulk material take-off analysis and tabulations.
- Procurement Support:Provide technical assistance with equipment and material procurement, including reviewing vendor submittals.
- Construction Support:Respond to construction requests-for-information and field changes.
- Other Duties:Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Citizenship:U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Education & Experience:Associate degree in a related technical field and a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience.
- Technical Knowledge:Working knowledge of applicable federal (including Department of Energy orders), state, and local codes and standards.
- Communication Skills:Ability to effectively communicate with project management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Code Compliance:Knowledge of discipline codes and standards and the ability to perform work in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Attention to Detail:Must work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
- Software Proficiency:Intermediate skills in word processing, email, spreadsheets, and electronic presentation programs.
- EPC Experience:Experience providing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services on industrial projects, with proficiency in 3D modeling and 2D CADD tools in a multi-discipline environment.
- Drafting Experience:Background in engineering fields such as electrical, instrumentation and control, or communications.
- Design Tools:Proficiency in Bentley MicroStation and Intergraph Smart3D (S3D) for creating and modifying designs independently.
- Field Work:Ability to walk down field systems, interpret field directions, generate design details, and direct junior drafters.
- Advanced Design Calculations:Perform lighting, raceway sizing, and wire sizing calculations.
- Intermediate Design Calculations:Execute voltage drop, cable pulling, panel board and breaker sizing, and junction box sizing.
- Material Handling:Perform electrical material take-offs and field assistance.
- Material Knowledge:Familiarity with commercial availability and material costs.
- Nuclear Experience:Experience designing systems, structures, and components for nuclear facilities under ASME NQA-1 requirements.
- Field Expertise:Practical field experience.
- EPC Project Experience:Proficiency in EPC projects for industries including:
- U.S. Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government Agencies.
- Nuclear facilities under a nuclear quality assurance program.
- Manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industries.
- Advanced Software Knowledge:
- 2D and 3D CAD systems and procedures.
- Intergraph SmartPlant Electrical and SmartPlant Review software.
- Design Expertise:Strong understanding of electrical design requirements such as grounding, lighting, wiring, motors, conduit fill and sizing, panel boards, and hazardous locations.
