The role:
As an Operations Manager, Electrical, you will bring your continuous improvement and management experience to support the management and guidance of electrical VDC engineers on their own complex projects. With an electrical team that is growing rapidly, your management expertise will guide a group of individuals with varying and unique personalities. Your knowledge of prefabrication, processes, and technologies will help guide you and your team through an exciting time in our industry.
In this role you will:
- Manage the budget and revenue of electrical projects taken on within your team in the electrical studio
- Define objectives and key results goals for the year and manage the achievement of these OKRs
- Provide leadership and guidance on electrical projects to individual electrical VDC engineers and managers
- Support the growth of direct reports by providing learning opportunities both technically and professionally
- Analyze team processes and procedures and develop process enhancement strategies
- Investigate shortfalls, issues, and complaints in current business processes
- Evaluate and prioritize potential improvements based on gains and required effort
- Secure employee commitment for proactive change management
- Establish clear and well-articulated implementation plans on projects and internal team initiatives
- Establish criteria for a project's success and prepare a sound statement of constraints/limiting factors
- Monitor and implement solutions to achieve objectives and expected benefits
- Develop processes and playbooks to ensure consistency and quality of work is maintained on all projects within the studio
- Lead internal team initiatives for the improvement of the studio's operation and efficiency while delegating efforts to direct reports as necessary
- Research and implement new software technologies for the improvement of the studio's production
- Manage and maintain studio utilization
- Work closely with the studio director and business development executives on maintaining client relationships and building new ones
- Identify, strategize, and implement client-focused improvement opportunities alongside clients
- Provide early-stage pricing estimates on potential project opportunities for the business development team
Apply if you have:
- 7+ years of experience working with electrical subcontractors in various aspects of business, including project management, field construction, business accounting and contracts, and utilizing KPIs to manage the team OR working with a general contractor managing electrical trades
- Management-level experience within the construction industry leading a team of 5-7 people
- Knowledge of Lean Construction, Agile, Six Sigma, and other process-improvement methodologies
- Experience with managing direct reports and their professional development
- Experience generating estimates and budgets for potential project opportunities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to plan initiatives and delegate work to achieve success
- Ability to identify potential conflicts, resolve them, and facilitate solutions
- Ability to identify and mitigate project risk
- Knowledge of drawing production standards for fabrication, including spooling, bill of materials, and layout drawings
- Broad knowledge of VDC standards within the electrical construction industry
Even better if you have:
- Knowledge of project controls and methodologies to ensure projects are executed on schedule and have a high-quality standard
- Prefabrication knowledge in the electrical realm
- Understanding of common software used within VDC such as Revit, Excel, Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM360, Bluebeam, and other Autodesk construction-focused software
- Knowledge of some Revit-based plugins for electrical detailing such as Evolve Electrical and Allied BIM
- Strong knowledge of software and technology related to the electrical contracting industry
- Proficient knowledge of electrical building systems, including design, fabrication, and installation
- Knowledge of a broad range of electrical systems including power, lighting, AV, low voltage, telecommunications, fire alarm, etc.
- Strong technical experience implementing new software
- Business administration experience
- Customer relations and satisfaction experience
Compensation and featured benefits:
- The pay for this position is $115,000+, and the role is eligible for bonuses. The actual salary offer may be different as we carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, location, and experience
