About the Job
The Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) provides quality water supply, water pollution control, mapping, and household hazardous waste collection to eight member municipalities: Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor. Additionally, the MDC provides drinking water to portions of Farmington, Glastonbury, East Granby and South Windsor, known as the MDC's non-member towns .
JOB SUMMARY
This is very responsible electrical and electronic maintenance supervisory work involving the supervision and direction of electronic technicians and electricians in radio, instrument and control maintenance and repair, plant electrical, and heating ventilation and circulation control unit maintenance and repair.
Work involves responsibility for the safe, effective and timely maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment keeping it in sound operating condition. Duties include directing radio, electronic instrument, electronic controls and electrical maintenance and repair. This position also has the responsibility for making very difficult technical electronic and electrical decisions. This work requires that the employee have knowledge, skill and ability in electrical and electronics maintenance and repair.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general direction of the Maintenance Superintendent.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An associate's degree plus six (6) years of progressively responsible electrical or electronics experience in plant electronics maintenance and or electrical maintenance, including at least two (2) years supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and qualifying experience substituting on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have, or obtain within one (1) year of hire, a FCC Commercial License. Must also have a valid driver's license. E-2 license preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of electrical, radio, instrument and control electronics repair principles and practices.
- Knowledge of all aspects of facility maintenance, including HVAC, security, fire suppression systems, plumbing, electrical, building automation, emergency services, card access, alarm systems, elevators, and mechanical.
- Knowledge of MDC policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to administer policies and procedures including scheduling, routine decision-making and the completion of forms and reports.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and standard office equipment.
- Ability to supervise others in a work unit.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors, contractors, and other governmental agencies.

Physical Ability : Tasks require the ability to exert moderate physical effort that involves lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (under 50 pounds).

Environmental Factors : Essential functions are performed primarily outdoors, frequently exposed to any or all of the following: various weather conditions, high or deep dangerous places, working near moving mechanical parts, risk of electric shock, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, etc.
