Job Summary:
The Electrical Journeyman Groundsman (CDL) plays a critical role in supporting the line crew with tasks related to the maintenance and repair of electrical power lines. This position involves assisting with equipment setup, performing routine maintenance on tools and machinery, ensuring safety at the job site, and providing general support to the line crew. The Groundsman works outdoors in various weather conditions and must be prepared to handle physically demanding tasks. A valid CDL license and prior experience in a similar role are required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the line crew with the setup of equipment and tools for power line maintenance and repair.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance of tools, machinery, and vehicles to ensure proper functioning.
- Maintain a safe working environment by following safety protocols and procedures.
- Handle materials and tools, ensuring the job site is organized and safe for the crew.
- Provide ground support during line work, including handing tools and equipment to linemen.
- Operate trucks and equipment as required by the crew to transport materials to and from the site.
- Communicate with the crew and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and task completion.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and guidelines.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Technical training in electrical work or lineman support preferred.
Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in electrical line work or construction.
- Previous experience working with a line crew or in an electrical maintenance setting is a plus.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of safety protocols related to electrical power lines and equipment.
- Ability to operate and maintain various tools and machinery used in line work.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments in various weather conditions.
- Physically capable of performing tasks such as lifting, climbing, and standing for long periods.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
Work Location and Travel:
- Primarily outdoor work at electrical power line sites.
- Travel may be required to various job sites within the region.
- Must be available to work overtime and weekends as needed.
Work Environment:
- This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary (Monday - Sunday with some overnight work) and overtime is frequently required.
- This position is safety sensitive in nature, which means employees perform duties so fraught with risks of injury to self or others, or environmental injury, that even a momentary lapse of concentration or attention can have disastrous consequences.
- The working environment is often in harsh elements (hot/humid and/or cold temperatures, rain, etc.) Industrial environments often have exposure to hazardous chemicals, moving heavy equipment, and other safety-sensitive hazards/risks. Must always be alert and able to safely perform the essential duties of the job without risking harm to oneself or others.

Physical Requirements:
Talk/Hear: Needed to effectively communicate with team members, follow safety instructions, report observations, and coordinate activities with the line crew to ensure smooth operations and a safe working environment.
Stand/Sit: Frequently needed to operate equipment, take breaks during long shifts, perform inspections, and maintain a safe and organized work environment while assisting the line crew.
Walk: Required to navigate the job site, transport tools and materials, assist the line crew in various tasks, and ensure safety protocols are followed throughout the work area.
Use hands/fingers to handle or feel: Regularly required to handle tools, operate equipment, and perform tasks like securing materials, setting up machinery, and assisting the line crew with precision work.
Climb: Frequently needed to access elevated work areas, support the line crew in maintaining or repairing electrical power lines, and assist in setting up equipment at height.
Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl: Frequently needed to access confined spaces, perform ground-level maintenance tasks, and assist with the setup or repair of electrical equipment.
See: Required to ensure safe operation of equipment, assess potential hazards, and accurately follow visual signals and instructions during electrical line maintenance.
Carry, weight, Lift: Required to transport tools, equipment, and materials to support the line crew during electrical power line maintenance and repair tasks.
Exposure to work: Will be in various outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind, as well as potential hazards associated with electrical equipment, heavy machinery, and heights. This role requires vigilance and adherence to safety protocols to mitigate risks while performing maintenance and repair tasks on electrical power lines.
