Job Summary
The Electrical Foreman is primarily responsible for supervising and coordinating all the working at a job site including that of a crew of electricians, apprentices, and laborers. The Electrical Foreman will establish and adjust work timelines to meet the construction schedule for the project, and organize, coordinate all project materials, and equipment. The Electrical Foreman will also ensure that all work installed is completed in accordance with standards set forth by the Company – all work will be completed on budget, on time, and in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards. This position reports to the Superintendent.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow all rules and procedures as required by Cooper Electrical Construction and meet all schedules and deadlines on a timely basis: ensure staff follow company procedures and policies
- Generates high quality work in alliance with the vision and mission of Cooper Electrical Construction
- Works to establish, adjust, and maintain work sequences to meet the construction schedule for a given project
- Reads and interprets specifications, contract documents, plans and prepares sketches of proposed work as well as producing layout drawings and code calculations for projects
- Analyzes and quickly resolves any work problems that may arise and ensures that all deficiencies on any given project are corrected in a timely manner
- Conducts quality control inspections on project sites
- Coordinates with all other crafts working on a job site to ensure smooth transitions
- Determines the types, sizes and quantity of wires, panel boards, switch boxes, and other equipment necessary to perform assigned jobs; requisitions materials as needed
- Make inspections to diagnose electrical trouble, and supervise the maintenance, repair, testing and installation of electrical equipment on the job sites
- Instruct electricians, apprentices and laborers in the techniques and procedures employed in the electrical trade; inspect all work to determine that they follow the necessary operations and that work conforms to specifications
- Keep all management team apprised of the status of any and all electrical work
- Address all day-today personnel issues in the crew and assign work to other employees in the crew
- Leads by example – sets, monitors and enforces the standards of safety, and exemplary quality of work set forth by Cooper Electrical Construction
- Willing to be on-call in case of emergency
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required
Education and Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Trade School Certificate in Electrical Wiring or comparable experience required
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a journeyman in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures using blueprints, schematics and sketches and OSHA 30 certified
- Demonstrates understanding and enthusiastic agreement with the vision and mission of Cooper Electrical Construction Company
- Experience using hand tools, small power tools, large power tools (threaders, benders, etc.)
- Experience studying work orders, building plans, and installation manuals in order to determine materials requirements and installations procedures
- Experience reading contract drawings
- Experience installing and mounting electronic controls, device panels, sensors, and components
- Experience installing, assembling, testing, and maintaining electrical or electronic wiring, conduit, cable, equipment, components, and devices associated with electrical equipment following drawings of electrical layouts and building plans
- Ability to perform interlock wiring as required
- Experience testing electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices
- Ability to appropriately diagnose malfunctions in systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of breakdown and take appropriate steps to correct the problem
- Ability to instruct and train workers to install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures
- Has a clear understanding of the latest edition of the NEC
