The Electrical Field Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing all electrical and mechanical systems on the rig location. The technician will also serve as the primary point of contact at the well site for the contractor and operator during the job.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Level II or III electrical technician with electrical and mechanical knowledge and ability to troubleshoot electrical components of up to 480 volts systems.
- Highly motivated and responsible with regard to maintaining the inventory on their service truck, completing service reports in a timely manner, and providing quality service to their customers.
- Working knowledge of electrical equipment such as Motor Controls
- Some knowledge of VFDs, Generator Controls, Top Drives, Iron Roughnecks, power catwalks and Mud Pumps, and hydraulic systems.
- The use of the above knowledge to perform preventive maintenance, as well as troubleshoot and perform corrective maintenance on the above equipment.
- Mentor and at times supervise trainees, and rig personnel on select above rig equipment.
- Communicate efficiently with other rig technicians, maintenance managers, proper rig personnel, and others in the Operations department.
- Performs repairs using various hand tools and measuring devices.
- Assist in troubleshooting using multimeters, amp probes, mergers, and scopes.
- Extensive travel to customer locations.
- Assist in the repair and troubleshooting of drilling equipment and software.
- Visit drilling rigs operating within the technician’s geographic regions.
- Remain alert to all opportunities to install additional systems on new rigs and to upgrade, or add on new equipment.
- Comply with and participate in company safety and quality programs.
- Maintain company-issued tools and be knowledgeable and skillful in the use of these tools.
- Customer relations and field sales of services.
- Complete required paperwork, documentation, and billing accurately and timely.
- Utilization of time management.
- Maintaining the issued truck parts and tool inventory
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Education and/or Experience – High school diploma, and trade/technical school diploma or 4-5+ years related experience in any one of the following vocations: Mechanical, Electrical, Drilling Systems, or Electronics.
- Language Skills – Must be fluent in English and possess the following abilities: to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, to write simple correspondence, to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Bilingual is a plus.
- Mathematical skills – Possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Possess the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
- Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
