Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Estimator to join our team within the electrical construction industry. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of electrical systems, project scopes, and cost estimation, along with a proven track record of successfully estimating large-scale commercial electrical projects. This role requires a keen eye for detail, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure accurate and competitive bid submissions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for electrical construction projects, including materials, labor, and overhead, based on drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Project Review: Analyze and review project plans, specifications, and scope of work to identify potential risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions.
- Bid Preparation: Develop and submit competitive bids, including pricing, scope clarification, and qualifications. Ensure all bids are compliant with client requirements and deadlines.
- Vendor and Supplier Coordination: Solicit and evaluate quotes from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure the best pricing and value for materials and services.
- Takeoffs & Quantification: Perform accurate electrical takeoffs from project blueprints and specifications, ensuring all materials and labor are accounted for in the estimate.
- Cost Control & Budgeting: Monitor project budgets and adjust estimates as needed to ensure profitability, including identifying cost-saving opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to provide input on design solutions, constructability, and potential cost-saving strategies.
- Proposal and Documentation: Prepare and present detailed cost proposals, including project schedules, labor estimates, material costs, and equipment requirements.
- Risk Management: Identify and assess potential risks in the estimating process and provide recommendations for mitigating those risks.
- Market Research: Stay current with market trends, material prices, labor rates, and industry standards to ensure the competitiveness and accuracy of estimates.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as an estimator in the commercial electrical construction industry, with a strong understanding of electrical systems, codes, and standards.
- Education: A degree or certification in construction management, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficient with estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Bluebeam, Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction methods, material costs, and labor rates in commercial electrical projects.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to produce highly accurate and detailed cost estimates, with a focus on minimizing risk and maximizing profitability.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to navigate complex project specifications and requirements.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present estimates and recommendations to clients, project teams, and stakeholders.
- Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining high-quality work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of electrical codes (NEC) and industry standards.
- Previous experience in large-scale commercial projects, including data centers, high-rise buildings, schools, hospitals, or industrial facilities.
