The Role:
The Mission Critical Center of Excellence manages billions of dollars in projects annually, specializing in data center and mission-critical construction for leading technology and telecommunications clients across the United States. Focused on fast-paced, MEP-intensive projects, the group is recognized for delivering complex solutions while offering significant opportunities for career advancement within the thriving mission-critical construction industry.
The Electrical Estimator will support the Mission Critical Center of Excellence and be responsible for in-house project budgeting, including preparing quantity surveys and understanding current unit cost. The Electrical Estimator will also obtain subcontractor bid pricing, including ensuring compliance with scope of work, and offer construction feasibility and value engineering while maintaining relationships with electrical contractors.
Responsibilities:- Unit Cost Pricing:
- Clearly understand the complexity of the scope of work as shown on the construction documents
- Prepare detailed take offs of materials
- Prepare detailed labor estimates utilizing man-hours, crews and equipment
- Solicit material prices from suppliers
- Obtain current labor rates
- Understand the influence of market conditions on pricing
- Subcontractor Solicitation & Selection:
- Work with Lead Estimator to prepare electrical subcontractor bid list
- Prepare subcontractor bid packages including transmittals, drawings and specifications
- Follow up with subs regarding bidding and update the subcontractor list
- Answer subcontractor questions during the bidding periods
- Prepare Exhibit “B” – Scope of work documents for subcontractor bids
- Prepare scope sheets for subcontractors, and review scope of work
- Work with Operations team on purchasing the appropriate subcontractor
- Electrical Design Consultation
- Provide construction feasibility feedback on design documents
- Provide value engineering ideas and pricing
- Maintain relationships with local designers
- Subcontractor Relationships & Feedback:
- Develop and maintain relationships with all local electrical subcontractors and vendors
- Keep Subcontractors up to date with project information and addenda during the bidding process
- Obtain vendor pricing before subcontractor pricing is being solicited
- Preconstruction Abilities:
- Assist the Senior Estimator with quantity take offs and subcontractor solicitation
- Prepare document lists and correspondence during pre-construction
- Other
- Attend weekly staff meetings and report on status of assignments
- Attend Training classes as required
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Electrical Estimating, or equivalent
- Computer skills
- Working knowledge of Excel spread sheets, and Word processing programs
- Experience with estimating software
