Reporting to: Senior Director of Electrical Engineering
Your role in the mission:
Type One Energy are seeking an Electrical Engineering Resource Manager to oversee and manage the allocation and optimization of engineering resources to ensure project success and efficiency. This role involves managing and coordinating Engineers, Scientists and other stakeholders to balance workload, manage resource capacity, and improve project delivery timelines.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a background in electrical engineering, and experience in resource management/ project management. You will maintain engineering quality by participating in design reviews and ensure quality in engineering deliverables.
This role will also be expected to be an individual contributor on electrical and/or embedded software projects. Tasks could include
- Helping with system architecture
- Technical risk mitigation
- Process modelling
- Software build systems
- Interfacing with contractors, component selection
- Interface control documentation
- System requirements
- Electrical design
- Assign Engineers to projects based on their skill sets and the needs of the projects.
- Support employee needs and represent their issues to HR.
- Facilitate the performance management process for their team.
- Ensure that engineers are effective in delivering on their project tasks and address any performance issues.
- Ensure that the engineers are appropriately utilized.
- Forecast future resource needs based on project pipeline and business objectives.
- Working with the Engineering Director to resolve any internal conflicts
Maintaining and growing proficiency and capability in the Engineering Team
- Identifying missing and underrepresented skillsets on the team. Work with HR to hire new Engineers.
- Understand the skills of the engineering team and ensure that the team members are working on tasks aligned with their skillset.
- Work with engineers to identify training needs and support them in their training.
- Create and maintain teams of excellence
Maintaining engineering quality
- Mentor Junior Engineers to grow their skills and capabilities.
- Ensure that proper engineering practices are followed.
- Participate in design reviews and ensure quality in engineering deliverables.
What you’ll need:
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or a related field.
- 15+ years of experience in engineering or embedded software
- At least 5 years of experience leading multidisciplinary teams
- Experience developing new technologies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to forecast resource needs and manage capacity.
- Experience as a resource manager in a matrix organization
- Experience with system integration and sequence diagrams
- Experience with task scheduling software such as Jira or Teams
- Experience working in the fusion energy sector
- Experience operating with a PLM
- Experience working in a fast past environment with tight timelines
