Responsibilities
The technology that powers Mainspring’s Linear Generator is unlike any other generator technology on the market. The Linear Generator relies on innovative electrical power and control hardware systems to achieve its best-in-class efficiency while meeting the world’s strictest emissions requirements. These hardware systems are designed by a talented team of engineers that own hardware design from initial concept through test and manufacturing.
Mainspring has a high impact opportunity to lead the electrical engineering team that is responsible for the Linear Generator’s power delivery and integration into customers’ power systems. In this role, you will…
-
Lead a team of electrical engineers responsible for: hardware design, integration and testing (grid tie inverters, high voltage DC bus filtering and protection), microgrid testing, power systems modeling (PSCAD), R&D testing enablement, and more!
-
Troubleshoot complex hardware and integration problems that arise in the R&D lab, production floor, and field units
-
Develop a microgrid testing platform, capable of integrating and testing multiple generation assets
-
Build out Mainspring’s power systems modeling and analysis capabilities, using software like PSCAD, to support internal and customer simulation needs
-
Lead the team to define engineering requirements, facilitate trade studies to make key architectural decisions, and deliver hardware designs and validation plans to scale manufacturing of the Linear Generator
-
Define and improve the processes that ensure that designs are robust and reliable, and can successfully be transferred to supply chain and manufacturing
-
Drive design for manufacturability, design for test, design for supply chain procurement at volume, and design for lower cost
-
Collaborate with the mechanical, controls, software, test, manufacturing and operations teams to deliver electrical hardware solutions to production and to customers
-
Wear many different hats, including people manager, technical lead, and engineering program manager
Qualifications
-
Multiple years of experience leading a high performing and happy team of engineers, and have a passion for doing so
-
Experience in the full hardware development life cycle, from requirements development to commercial launch
-
Technical expertise and hands on experience with high voltage (480VAC and 800VDC) electrical systems
-
A strong understanding and track record of transferring designs to manufacturing
-
A bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Electrical Engineering or related field
This is a hybrid position (on-site + remote) and will require you to be on-site as required to perform testing, troubleshooting, manufacturing support, etc.
The Bay Area salary for this role is $160k-$185k base + pre-IPO stock options + benefits. This position can be hybrid. The salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions based on employee location as well as the experience of the employee.
