The GSUSA Collection & Archive includes objects and records that reflect the history of the oldest and largest extant women-led organization in the United States, thus serving as a window into the role and agency of women in our country from the early 19th century to the present. The Collection spans centuries, genres, styles, and formats (including digital) and includes corporate records, personal writings, ephemera, media, scrapbooks, fine and decorative arts, farm and camp equipment, furnishings, textiles, sculpture, jewelry, silver, international gifts, product and memorabilia, awards and recognitions, and Girl Scouts uniforms, badges, and insignia, as well as personal letters and writings of significant people associated with the Movement, such as Juliette Gordon Low, GSUSA Founder. The Collection, interpreted to the public and fully aligned and supporting the strategic priorities and mission of GSUSA, is located in and embodied at National Headquarters, New York, NY, the Edith Macy Conference Center, Briarcliff Manor, NY, and the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, Savannah, GA.

You Will

The Girl Scouts of the USA Internship Program is a 10-week program focused on hands-on training in a variety of opportunities throughout the organization. You will be a part of a cohort of interns across the enterprise focused on projects that impact the business and girls everywhere. 

Throughout this summer internship program, you’ll get exposure to real projects and challenges while gaining first-hand professional experience. At GSUSA you’ll gain access to a mission-driven and fast-paced work environment. You’ll also participate in networking and learning events with your fellow intern cohort.

This program runs from June 5 through mid-August, 2024. You must be available for the entire duration of the program.

We are seeking a Summer Intern to join our Collection & Archive Team. Candidates should be based in the Savannah area as this role is in office 5 days per week.

Internship responsibilities:

The Girl Scout Movement was founded during Progressive Era reforms and activism. The Research intern will examine the GSUSA Collection & Archive to identify objects and records that make connections between the earliest Girl Scout leaders and volunteers and their participation in Progressive Era movements and organizations. In addition, they will examine building and museum records to create an inventory of interpretive changes over time, focusing on the period of the Movement’s founding, 1912. In addition, they will use the inventories to reconcile entries in the GSUSA Collection & Archive management software, creating a clean and up-to-date record of our objects and archives. 

• Must currently be enrolled in a full-time Bachelors program and graduating between December 2024 and June 2027.  Preference is for a background in history, historical preservation, art history, archival management, library science, public history, museum studies, or a related field
• Strong academic record
• Project management
• Familiarity with Girl Scouts a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a professional museum environment.

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday with a 35 hour per week schedule. 

SALARY RANGE: $15.00 per hour
