Toyoda Gosei North America (headquartered in Troy, MI) has an opening for a Sr Electrical Engineer in the Interior/Exterior Plastics Engineering department. The Senior Electrical Engineer functions with a high degree of autonomy, and is responsible for providing professional level engineering design and product lifecycle support for our Safety Systems commodity within Toyoda Gosei (TG) North America Corporation (TGNA) and TGNA Manufacturing Companies (NAMCs).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- System Design/development of automotive ECU for HOD, heater, LED mounted on steering wheel products, and its supplier management/control
- Design/development of automotive LED control circuits mounted on the exterior/interior products
- Automotive communication (CAN, LIN, CXPI) design/development for the above products
- Specifications/RFQ support for electronic components, creation of requirement specifications for suppliers
- Lead teams to comply with the latest standards and regulations for automotive (ISO26262, ISO21434)
- Survey of suppliers to expand localization of electronic components in North America, and certification activities in cooperation with teams.
- Work with internal design group to release 3D and 2D design data
- Perform root cause analysis, and develop & validate countermeasures to address engineering defects
- Collaborate with internal test group to create and implement test plans
- Maintain engineering documentation such as ADVP&R, DFMEA, timelines, and others
- Manage prototype part ordering and tracking
- Conduct research and part analysis to benchmark competitors, understand and apply best practices, and how to apply/innovate TG technology to meet customer demands
- Provide regular support and communication with our global manufacturing plants, customers, and teams
- Serve as a mentor and lead to Engineers
- Develop, present and promote new product technology to OEM customers
- Provide project planning and budget management support
- Provide regular support and communication between various global technical and manufacturing facilities
- Drive optimization by being actively engaged in continuous improvement efforts

Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent in experience is required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred
- Seven to fifteen years of relevant work experience is preferred
- Ability to travel outside of the United States is required
- Knowledge of electronics hardware/software of electrical circuit for heater/HOD (capacitance)/LED is required
- Knowledge of ISO26262 functional safety/ISO21434 cyber security is preferred
- Some CAD experience is a plus (CATIA V5 and/or UG/NX)
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suites 2007 or newer is required
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines is required
- Effective verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills with all staff and management are required
- Effective attention to detail, problem solving and organizational skills is required
