Job Summary:
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for design and ongoing support of Inogen's electrical systems, including circuit board design, layout, testing, development, and troubleshooting. This position is intended to provide support to Product and Technology Development Projects, with an emphasis on design improvements for increased reliability, manufacturability and performance. Electrical design tasks undertaken shall be completed within project schedule requirements and according to Inogen operating procedures. The Electrical Engineer may also be assigned a sustaining engineering role to focus their activities on existing product lines to make improvements to user experience, quality, reliability, cost and efficiency in manufacturing.
Responsibilities (Specific tasks, duties, essential functions of the job)
Electrical Engineer I
- Utilize printed circuit board schematic capture to provide product design support for the Inogen products.
- Determine and execute design improvement opportunities for increased reliability, manufacturability and performance design, implementation and testing of electronics for Inogen products.
- Troubleshoot electronic systems, identify root causes, and develop corrective actions.
- Provide ongoing engineering and technical support to Inogen manufacturing for all circuit board related issues or tasks.
- Work with PCA suppliers to ensure a stable supply chain by transferring knowledge of Inogen designs to the suppliers as necessary.
- Support EMC and Safety Agency testing as related to electronic designs.
- Support and develop engineering documentation, including specifications and verification procedures.
- Perform production validation testing, including system level and board level testing.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Assist with any other duties as assigned.
Electrical Engineer II
In addition to items listed for Electrical Engineer I an Electrical Engineer II may also be responsible for the following.
- Lead ongoing electronic systems risk analysis. Develop mitigative and corrective actions to support product quality goals.
- Provide consistent attention to reducing defects in manufacturing and field returns through continuous improvement and lean practices
- Provide support to manufacturing as necessary to maintain production capacity, including problem identification, analysis, and solutions
- Work as an interface between Inogen and PCA manufacturers for the support of technical issues related to production circuit boards.
- Meet with vendors as necessary to identify components and technologies required for Inogen designs.
Electrical Engineer III
In addition to items listed for Electrical Engineer II an Electrical Engineer III may also be responsible for the following.
- Lead development efforts for selected Electrical Engineering projects from concept through prototyping and production release
- Work with software engineer and functional engineers to ensure hardware / software functionality
- Determine and execute design improvement opportunities for increased reliability, manufacturability and performance design, implementation and testing of electronics for Inogen products.
- Troubleshoot electronic systems, identify root causes, and develop corrective actions.
- Provide ongoing engineering and technical support to Inogen manufacturing as needed for circuit board related issues or tasks.
- Support training activities for other Inogen engineers and production members
Electrical Engineer IV
In addition to items listed for Electrical Engineer III an Electrical Engineer IV may also be responsible for the following.
- Manage design changes at the system level.
- Contribute to product and technology innovations.
- Coordinate and work cross functionally to achieve companywide objectives.
- Lead development efforts for product level Electrical Engineering projects including selection of critical components like microprocessors, wireless chips, and power path architectures.
- Work with software engineer and functional engineers to develop hardware / software interfaces.
- Select, implement, and maintain appropriate design tools for execution of Inogen electronics designs.

- Must have demonstrated design and prototyping capabilities using both analog and digital circuits in a design project. Project experience must include analog and digital sensor experience as well as implementation of a microprocessor and related peripheral architecture.
- Experience with manufacturing test engineering requirements, including test procedures, test fixture design, and test fixture verification.
- Experience writing design documentation, including specifications, verification procedures and test reports.
- Detail oriented with attention to product quality.
- Experience in medical device manufacturing and in ISO quality systems.
- Ability to modify and work with "C" code is desired.
