Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer II to join our team and work in a production environment, supporting the development of next-generation X-ray-based security equipment. The Electrical Engineer II will be responsible for designing, implementing, and troubleshooting machine control systems, including embedded programming, motion control, power distribution, and ensuring the successful integration of complex systems within a cross-functional team.

- Design and Development:
- Design PLC-based machine control systems, including circuit design, embedded programming, motion control, and power distribution.
- Design and develop printed circuit boards (PCBs), from schematic capture through layout, fabrication, and assembly.
- Create engineering documentation, such as design specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of material.
- Troubleshooting and Sustaining Engineering:
- Troubleshoot existing and new designs at the component level, perform root cause analysis, and propose solutions.
- Provide sustaining engineering for existing products, addressing obsolescence issues and implementing feature updates.
- Collaboration:
- Work within a cross-functional team of scientists, mechanical engineers, software engineers, and test engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
- Act as a key team member for both large and small projects, developing solutions, presenting design concepts, and completing project implementations.
- Production Support:
- Support product testing and validation in a lab and industrial environment, including programming equipment, testing, and teardown of large equipment.
- Participate in scrum team meetings and provide status updates on current tasks, progress, and issues.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to safety procedures when working with heavy machinery, X-ray producing machines, and hazardous materials.
- Work in industrial environments with various safety considerations, including temperature, humidity, noise, and confined spaces.
- Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- At least 4 years of professional experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on industrial control systems and machine control.
- Strong experience with PLC systems, embedded software development, and industrial control system design (machine safety, circuit protection, electrical interfaces, and power distribution).
- Proficient in using electrical test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, function generators, and bench supplies.
- Familiar with product development processes, including writing design specifications, design reviews, and engineering change requests (ECRs).
- Able to work in an industrial lab environment, safely handling equipment and systems, including high voltage and hydraulic power systems.
- Preferred:
- Proficient in PLC programming using IEC61131 languages.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Orcad, PADS, Altium).
- Knowledge of radiation detection technologies and X-ray producing machinery.
- Familiarity with system architecture design for complex systems.
- Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.
- Location: Vista, CA 92081. The role is 100% on-site with no option for telework.
- Team Environment: The engineering team is small (typically 2-3 Electrical Engineers per project), fostering close collaboration.
- Work Conditions: The position involves working in an industrial lab, programming and testing machinery, and may require working in outdoor environments for equipment testing.
- U.S. Citizenship: Required for this role.
- Security Clearance: A Public Trust clearance is preferred but not necessary to start.
- Overtime: Minimal overtime is expected, and there are no billing restrictions for overtime.
