Position Overview
Reporting directly to the Principal Engineer, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing, testing, and supporting software, firmware, and controls for automated dispensing equipment.
Essential Job Functions and Basic Duties
- Designs and develops applications, reusable software components and database models that support internal and external processes.
- Evaluates, tests and reviews firmware, software, and hardware to determine if they perform according to requirements and specifications.
- Coordinates with project team to create and release product requirements, design specifications and design descriptions that meet applicable standards and procedures.
- Reviews product documentation for accuracy including documentation intended for client use.
- Supports project initiatives collaborating with engineering team to ensure project deadlines are met.
- Analyzes and provides feedback on peer designs in an open and collaborative review forum.
- Assists with system integration and testing strategy and documentation.
- Actively participates in cross-functional teams to develop new products as well as address design issues and maintenance of existing products.
- Evaluates products for non-conformance and recommend modifications.
- Provides estimates for project planning.
- Collaborates with technical experts, including team members to solve technical problems.
- Maintains accurate records throughout the development process to comply with company and government standards and/or regulations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Contributes to the product knowledge to help make future installations and troubleshooting easier.
- Maintains communication between the department and management through regular operational reports and/or attending staff meetings.
- Assists the Principal Engineer and other team members when needed.
- Completes required reports and records accurately and promptly.
- Attends meetings and training as required.
- Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems or concerns.
- Contributes to the fulfillment of department and Company objectives and goals.
- Recommends improvements to the policies and procedures which affect the department.
- Adheres to established security safeguards, procedures and other Company policies.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
Experience
- 3–5-year related work experience.
- Domain: Electrical, Electronics, Firmware
Required Knowledge:
- Demonstrates understanding of IPA products, related technologies and IPA’s implementation process.
- Knowledge/experience with microcontrollers and their programming
- Atmel, using C (gcc toolchain)
ARM microprocessors, SBCs, and Linux distributions
- Raspberry Pi SBC, Debian Linux, etc
Application development + life cycle
- Code reviews (C/C++, bash)
- Software testing
- Software packaging/deployment
- Malfunction RCA
Requirements/specification/documentation
- Professional experience with the following technologies:
- Switches, Solenoids, Motors and other electromechanical components
- Serial Communication Protocols – RS232, RS485, CAN, SPIO
- USB communications
- TCP / IP
- SQL Databases
- PCB layout and design
Skills/Abilities:
- Selection and evaluation of off the shelf electronic components
- Design of custom-purpose electrical components/specification
- Review of product electrical compliance testing (IEEE/IEC, FCC, UL, etc)
- Dielectric strength (HIPOT)o Emissions/Interface (Conductive/radiative)
- Design of electronic components (PCBs)
- Proficient in the following technical skills:
- C/C++ Programmingo Linuxo Microcontroller Firmwareo VMWare/virtual machines
- Skilled in the use of electronic test equipment, e.g., multi-meter and Oscilloscope.
- Willingness to pick up and learn new technologies.
- Collaboration with internal and external resources for electronic design.
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Less than 10% travel.
