About the Job
The Electrical Project Engineer serves as the Electrical discipline focal point for assigned Site projects and provides electrical technical assurance during all phases of a project. This includes design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, startup, and closeout. The responsibilities will be accomplished through the personal application of technical skills and the coordination and involvement of the appropriate technical resources available on site, through client and 3rd party engineering services. Though some limited design work might occasionally be undertaken, it is not intended that this role will provide detailed engineering design. The individual in this role will however be expected to provide detailed design input in terms of required standards, specifications and materials of construction, and will further provide review, comment and overview of the detail design provided by others. This individual will also be expected to specify required quality control and quality assurance hold points and examinations, and to provide review, comment and overview of vendor, fabricator, and constructor quality control programs. It is also not intended that the individual in this role will function in a Project Engineer capacity. Overall project administration will remain the responsibility of an individual assigned from the Project Engineering discipline.
Responsibilities:Plan and execute the electrical equipment technical assurance activities for assigned projects. Provide Technical Authority assurance and sign-off of key project deliverables required during each project phase. Provide day-to-day electrical equipment technical support assigned projects. Specify appropriate codes, standards and specifications.
Specify quality control and assurance requirements. Identify and approve suppliers and/or fabricators for electrical equipment and services.
Coordinate involvement of other Electrical Engineering personnel as necessary (e.g., area electrical specialist support and/or supplementary engineering support). Communicate electrical equipment related project plans and activities to the Electrical Engineering Department personnel to provide information, solicit input, and ensure alignment. Develop a thorough understanding of each assigned project from an electrical discipline perspective (equipment, design, and specifications). Participate in and comply with all Site safety programs, activities and requirements. Serve as the Electrical Discipline representative for incident investigations associated with projects as appropriate.
Qualifications:At least 5 years of Electrical Engineering experience, including relevant experience within large petrochemical facilities, is preferred.
Significant experience in the following areas is highly desirable: Power Distribution Systems, computer-based protection components and systems, including high voltage switchgear and transformers - Independently derived power generation sources and variable frequency drive -Uninterruptible Power Supply systems including batteries - Electric Heat Tracing and systems -Large Induction Motors and Large Synchronous Motors - Area classification design including hardware application Arc flash design and mitigation,- Power system modeling including studies of load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, and arc flash.
Education Requirements:Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and preference for Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Professional Engineer license.
