Join the Egan Company team as an Electrical Designer/Prefabrication Specialist working from our Rochester, MN location! As an electrical VDC team member, you'll plays a crucial role in the construction industry, specializing in the digital design and coordination of electrical systems within a building project. You'll contribute to more efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality construction projects. Additionally, you'll play a vital role in bridging the gap between design and construction, leading to improved project outcomes and reduced risks.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Electrical Designer/ Prefabrication Specialist include, but are not limited, to the following:
- 3D Modeling: Creating detailed 3D models of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and other electrical components. This involves using specialized software like Revit, AutoCAD, or other BIM (Building Information Modeling) tools.
- Coordination: Collaborating with other VDC professionals (mechanical, plumbing, structural, etc.) to ensure seamless integration of all building systems. This includes identifying and resolving clashes or conflicts between different trades early in the design phase.
- Clash Detection: Utilizing software tools to identify and resolve potential clashes between electrical systems and other building elements, minimizing costly construction delays and rework.
- Quantities and Takeoffs: Generating accurate material quantities and takeoffs directly from the 3D models, streamlining the procurement and estimating processes.
- Shop Drawing Review: Reviewing and approving shop drawings from electrical contractors to ensure they align with the design intent and project specifications.
- Field Coordination: Providing support to field teams by offering virtual and on-site assistance, resolving installation issues, and facilitating communication between the design and construction teams.
- Documentation and Standards: Maintaining accurate project documentation, including electrical drawings, specifications, and as-built information. They also contribute to the development and enforcement of project-specific BIM standards and workflows.
- Assist with project work:
- Answer user questions
- Create project specific content
- For Design and Virtual Construction projects
- Establish BIM execution guidelines with other project stakeholders (owner, owner’s rep, contractor, architect, etc.). Communicate these guidelines to the in-house team
- Assist with modeling, annotating, and 3D coordination
- Visit construction sites for verification and as-building
- Attend 3D coordination meetings
- Perform 3D modeling with main focus towards pre-fabrication
- Assure the design results in conflict-free installation.
- Create files for Trimble locating system
- All other duties as assigned
Nature of Responsibilities
- The BIM Designer is tasked with executing the above responsibilities. The BIM Designer may complete these tasks individually, in cooperation with others, or by delegating to other team members.
- The BIM Designer will proactively engage with colleagues to foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- When establishing CAD development initiatives, development priorities, and CAD standards, the BIM Coordinator will be proactive and show leadership, but will work in collaboration with others. Important decisions should be established by consensus. When an executive decision is necessary, the BIM Designer will bring his/her recommendation to the Pre-Construction Group Manager.

- Design Group Managers and Modelers (mechanical and electrical)
- IT (Chief Information Officer, Systems and Support Manager, Support Specialists)
- Project Managers
- Field Superintendent
- Field Foreman
Requirements
- Required: High school diploma
- Two year technical degree in related program such as Electrical Construction Design or related field
- AutoCAD 3D, Revit and Bluebeam experience is highly preferred
- Prior internship/entry-level experience designing and drafting electrical systems required
- Electrical construction background preferred

- Previous experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite
Working Conditions
- This role is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement - working a mix of in the office and at home.
- Occasional travel to job sites for meetings with field leaders to collaborate, strategize, and verify existing conditions.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Exposure to loud noise, dirt, and exposure to the elements. Climbing ladders/stairs, uneven ground, bending, kneeling, and twisting are to be expected on job sites.

Salary Range: $69,000-$90,000 (subject to such factors as experience, education, and/or skill set) plus potential annual discretionary bonus.
